In order to prolong battery life, it is reccomended that you discharge the battery fully (until it warns you to plug it in), plug and charge it to 100%, unplug and repeat. If you plan on using the laptop in a stationary position then remove the battery and leave it plugged in all the time.

If I add it all up, it's over a thousand bucks. It's worth it, though, for the enjoyment you gain.

If you have a good inbuilt DAC, no problem. But what if the DAC in your otherwise hi-fi CD player is low-quality? Then you can justify buying an external DAC. An external DAC may also be subjected to less electrical noise than the one built into the CD player.

Vintage hifi gear's safety depends entirely on the design of the component. Some older stuff was known to self-destruct after a couple of years but others are still going strong. A bit of googling when making a purchase will help determine if the model has a history of burning out or not. If...
