Question Poll, what do you think, is vinyl better or CD?

Atoll IN 300 Amplifier - Anyone got / heard one?

I don't own one because I went with something else but a couple of years ago the Atoll was on my short list. Plus the Yamaha AS1200, the Arcan SA30 and the Advance Paris A12. I ended up getting the latter but it was not an easy choice. I thought the Atoll was brilliant and probably more...

4k HDR on mini PCs? What to look for?

Hi, I'm thinking of getting a mini PC as source for my HIFI system, plus movies to my TV. I currently have my main PC rigged to both by long cables but that's not a great solution. I was looking at 2nd hand mini PCs as this doesn't need to be a powerful machine but I've noticed several comments...

How do you improve a CD player which is Transport only

I also rip everything so no need for a transport but I'm always curious about stuff like this. I guess the question is what is the difference between an Audiolab and a 45k dCS? This is the insides of a dCS Vivaldi... I see a lot of chips and capacitors that could end up costing a fortune...

Stereo image distance distance... too close to the speaker front plane?

That's very similar to my thoughts on the matter. And for some reason, modern Country, Alt-Country and Americana in general are spectacularly well recorded. I should add that I listen exclusively to lossless rips and DACs have a very important role here. Moving to an R2R dac gave me plenty of...

Stereo image distance distance... too close to the speaker front plane?

It's the wall in front of you and the wall to the rear of the speakers. All relative, like doc Einstein used to say, I guess...

Stereo image distance distance... too close to the speaker front plane?

Those were my previous speakers (can't recall if I mentioned that) and they were also closer than the minimum 2m (6.5ft). I'm still in the process of dealing with the rear wall distance. They are now 40cm from the wall (a little bit less than 16 inches) but the stands are also on Gaia feet...

    System re-think, downsize

I hadn't noticed you had floorstanders. I think the Q Acoustics Q Active 400 are around the price of the KEFs but they are floorstanders and supposedly pretty good. They should take the same amount of space of the KEFs on stands, so maybe check those out too...

    System re-think, downsize

I would try it and see how I would get along. I've tried a similar approach some 15 to 10 years ago and it didn't work for me at all. But then again I went with a set of one of the better Edifier powered speakers that should be miles away (in the wrong direction) from the KEFs. To me the...

Stereo image distance distance... too close to the speaker front plane?

So I'm back home and I've been playing around with the speakers position, things sound way better now. Turns out that, apart from anything else, they need to be closer to each other rather than far apart. They are just 1.65m apart but stereo image comes much forward. I suspect it's because they...

Stereo image distance distance... too close to the speaker front plane?

Yeah, I'll have to play around with things in that room. It's the sound, comfort, there's a lot of things wrong in there. I'm away for a couple of weeks so plenty of time to think about. Thanks for the help so far, guys!

Question External new DAC or not

In my experience, upgrading my DAC was the most radical improvement a single component made in my system. But that was from going from a 150€ DAC to a 1000€ one. More money might not always mean better but most gear doesn't cost what it costs out of nothing. You'll have people of the opinion...
