I would only use my various soundbars for casual listening. Anthing more than that and I'll use the stereo system. Would I go to stereo system for home cinema? Not right now as I've installed home cinema surrounds / sub etc, but as I've posted on a different thread, if I could get a 3.1...

I would have you builder install two ceiling speakers (I used Cambridge Audio Minx C46) and run the cable to where you intend your electronics to be. Then you have the option of A/V Receiver with 5.1, or (like me) run a Sonos Arc and amplified surround speakers. I'd also suggest (if budget...

If you want my (brutal) honesty. Overkill for the space. I'd go 5.1 with the ceiling speakers being the surround. But that's me. If you have your heart set on such a set up, and the budget to match it, go for it.

An alternative, but at best would be 2.1 would be something like a WiiM Amp Ultra with some Dali Kupids. You could ask the wife what colour she would like!

Cable is bvggered, but sensible me (read: my installer) put a Cat 6 run in - so have purchased a Cat 6 HDMI extender and will give that a go as first crack. Second crack will be to run a non-optical HDMI cable as it should handle the distance.

Cable has ceased to carry a video signal. I am going to try and "reverse" my set up so the cable only has to carry audio and see if that buys me some days/weeks/months.
