    Music for studying

I find that anything really familiar works for me when I'm writing. If I try to listen to something new, my brain tunes in and I can't concentrate on my work. Unless it's classical – pretty much anything orchestral works for me. Hard bop, on the other hand, does not. :O

    OK...Which article is correct?

Apologies for that - the Buyer's Guide redesign has thrown up a couple of gremlins. This should've been the B&W MT-50, not the -60. The page in question has been disciplined and has promised to get it right this month.

Digital edition of What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision is here!

Cheers! And given that you're a good few hours ahead of us here in the UK, it means you'll actually be able to read the issue before us. We're all asleep when it goes live in the middle of the night!

July edition - Media Streamers Test

Hi SteveLo, Unfortunately, none of the streamers in the group test offers access to 4oD or ITV Player - hence the term "such as"! Although firmware updates can make pretty much anything happen.... If you want those services specifically right now, though, you can get them on the Sony PS3. And...

    August Digital Edition Blurred

It's tough proof-reading it on paper, too. We have to tilt our heads 90 degrees. Either that or stand side-on to the desk.

The strangest, least accessible music in your collection?

It's probably this: John Cage – Four Walls Or this, depending on your tastes: Warrant – Cherry Pie

Glad you enjoyed last year's High End mag! There's a 36-page Ultimate Guide to Blu-ray free with the December issue of What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision, which goes on-sale on November 11. And you might be happy to hear that we're putting the finishing touches on the latest Ultimate Guide to New...

WHF S&V hits rock bottom: now claiming USB cables have an effect on sound quality

I recommended using an expensive cable in the context of an expensive system. I've done a blind HDMI test. I saw and heard the difference between a no-name bundled cable and a pricey one. Before I went into it, I was entirely unconvinced that I'd notice any difference at all. But I did! If...

WHF S&V hits rock bottom: now claiming USB cables have an effect on sound quality

chebby: AlmaataKZ:I thik if a hifi mag says a USB cable (or another piece of kit) affects sound (image), it shoudl be prepared to explain teh mechanism. if not right in the article (for reasons of space or whatever), then on another suitable occasion, e.g. on the forum or in a special...

WHF S&V hits rock bottom: now claiming USB cables have an effect on sound quality

Cables don't actively improve sound or picture; we've never said they do. A better quality cable will just degrade the signal less. You might not notice any difference at all comparing a bundled HDMI cable with a £200 one using a £300 telly. But you would definitely notice a difference on a...

    Please do something

Hi, Sorry you've been having problems with the new colours in the star ratings. We're on the case, though - the Awards issue will see the return of the older, more easily read tints.

    Film for Christmas Day

Old Boy. No, not really. How about Star Wars: The Clone Wars? It takes the bad taste of the prequels out of your mouth as an adult, and it's great for kids (not that there'll be any there).

The Ultimate Guide to Blu-ray: have your say!

Mentasm:What are you actually looking to do with this? The Ultimate Guide to Blu-ray indicates that it will be an informative piece about the format, some of the 'killer app' titles and so forth, but you seem to be asking for users' experiences. Shouldn't it be a factual piece with the specs...

The Ultimate Guide to Blu-ray: have your say!

Hi all, Right, then – we’re about to start work on the new issue of the Ultimate Guide to Blu-ray. So, it’s time you lot had your say for the ‘Why Buy?’ feature at the front of the mag. How would you sell Blu-ray to someone with both feet firmly planted in the standard-definition camp? What is...
