Anyone experienced the Naim NAC-N 172 XS?

Not heard a 172 XS but have listened to both an ND5XS as well as the NDX (obviously). They both sound amazing. The NStream app is now superb and I think that the combo of Pre and streamer is ideal; I would have gone that way had I been patient and waited. Saves on a potentially costly cable...

    Naim depreciation...

I bought a Naim CD3.5, NAC 102 and NAP 140 in 1999 and paid near £3k for the lot. I sold them in 2010 on fleabay for approx £1300 I think. Not bad for 11 years of pleasure...

£1500 to spend on speakers....I have two thoughts. What would you do?

If your NAD amp is up to it, PMC Twenty 21s and save for the matching stands. Small, discrete but sound sublime.

    Superuniti vs Sonos

I haven't heard the SuperUniti, but I am more than familiar with Naim networking and NStream. you need a reliable UPnP server on the NAS (eg Twonky) for serving duties. Once that is setup, and assuming you have a reasonable router or wireless access point, N Stream is an absolute joy to use...

    Can I add a PV1 B&W Sub to my Cyrus 6a Amp?

The PV1 is good but best suited to satellite speakers imo. i would be looking at something from REL (R328, similar size but less cash) and use the high level speaker inputs as suggested by REL.

    Rel TZero with LS50 speakers?

I'm not sure a T Zero would add much; why not aim for a T7 at least? This would then offload the bass from the KEFs more effectively I think.

    Yipee! Got the Naim (UPDATE)

You still have to be pretty committed to own a full Naim set-up, both financially and in terms of patience in installation and to some extent, the idiosyncrasies of operation (leaving it powered up, DIN plugs, Naim speaker connectors etc etc). It ain't plug 'n play, but the rewards are worth it.

    Neat Petite SX?

Due to a (temporary) change in domestic circumstances, I was considering these as a replacement to my Dynaudios...but according to my dealer they need lots of space behind them, even when fed with a tight Naim system. Comments? I have yet to hear them yet...

    Naim or Musical Fidelity??

Completely different; you will have to try and see for yourself. I had an MF E100 amp in the past and its presentation from my Naim amp that replaced it could not have been more different. Much more laid back sound, which is fine if that's what you are after.

New set up for digital music, amp advice

I am an ex Cyrus 8XPd owner. Look on the relevant owners forum but generally the following are wholeheartedly recommended with Cyrus, especially since you are willing to buy used; Dynaudio Kudos Spendor I can speak from experience and say that Cyrus amps are a good match with both Dynaudio...

    Simple, Quality, Music Streaming?

If I was starting again on a tight budget I would get a Synology Diskstation (single disk since you already have backup on another HDD) and stream to my iPad/tablet using the DS Audio App, and connect the ipad to the amp using a high quality interconnect (Chord IChord for example). Simple and...

can some one talk me through

Synology DS Audio can stream direct to an iPad. Therefore some kind of iPad dock attached to the amp plus the Synology NAS is all that's required.

Can you remember what system you listened to them with? I have a feeling that thy are more tuned for AV than purely stereo...

    PMC Wafer

I'm under considerable pressure from Mrs JW to reduce the visual impact of my HiFi; specifically my speakers. She doesn't accept that small floorstanders can be less visually intrusive than largish stand mounts, and on the basis that I am not going to compromise on sound quality, our options...

Power amp for Uniti Qute ; Sound signature?

If I had a UniQute, I would stick these on the end of it... http://www.guruaudio.co.uk/pdf/Guru%20QM10two%20press%20release.pdf
