No firmware updates for the 205 since Feb 2019. All their other kit has even older updates (!!). Looks like it's finished.

Oppo 103 modernised my set-up for streaming, Blu-ray, any audio files you can think of (multi channel DSD music anyone?). Great piece of kit. Significant improvements also noted from a large number of good G&Ts (currently working through a bottle of Aber Falls) and/or a couple of Gioisas. Hic.

If money's no object Jimboo, you may be right but think about this. Last year I bought a pair of Monitor Audio Studio 50s for £550 (My trusty MA 20SEs are in the attic). £4500 when new. All parts still available for them. Good luck finding a £550 set of new speakers that have better sound...

Mine are hanging higher than a rear door. Not inclined, and work fine although you maybe get a little “bass reinforcement” from the high corner positioning.

I think you would need to take a significant step up the cost ladder. My Oppo player does everything that you describe, but it wasn’t exactly ”budget”.

Driver size? Wallop and efficiency. Have a listen to a pair of Ditton 66s. On the rest: Size matters, I’m afraid I’m quite keen on the slimmer floor standing look. Specs insofar as matching amps. Power/current/efficiency. The rest is by ear really.

The tweakers thing is brilliant observation. I’ve been simplifying things over the last few years. Got rid of the phono stage, cassette deck, cd recorder, etc. Technology did however get its own back last week. My phone told me my car needed updating. World’s gone mad I tell you!!
