25 Tidal tips, tricks and features

Well, thanks to the Tidal support people, who are amazingly prompt, I found it by going to the <3 shaped-icon (Collection) / Settings / Playback screen. Great.

25 Tidal tips, tricks and features

For #15, it does not appear to possible to turn Autoplay OFF on the Tidal iPhone app. For me, this is incredibly annoying and is a deal-breaker when it comes to continuing after the free trial. If anyone knows how this can be done, please, please do let me know.

7 best-produced recordings of the 21st century to test your system

Cry: On speakers - much better than on phones for the soundstage but I still found it to be too accentuated to the sides, so, even though this has a lot going for it, particularly the rich timbre of Mr. Charles's voice, it wouldn't be one of my choices, but I do agree that this has a natural and...

7 best-produced recordings of the 21st century to test your system

Yes, I'll re-listen to Cry on the speakers - Phones definitely give you a different image or soundstage. For a while I was using an Earstudio ES100 Mk2 which has an option on the app to variably simulate speakers by 'sharing' (don't have the app any more so can't remember what the control was...

7 best-produced recordings of the 21st century to test your system

Ray Charles 'Cry'. I see what you mean; this sounds really good but, what I don't like is the excessive 'stereo-ization' (to coin a word) where, although Mr. Charles's voice is well placed, the strings are almost entirely in the R channel and the piano in the L. So, this isn't something I'd use...

7 best-produced recordings of the 21st century to test your system

Well, I finally did listen to this recording, or at least the first 5 minutes of it. It was awful. It sounded like I was in the back of a large auditorium and, even worse, the sound of the strings was like sandpaper being rubbed across my eardrums. So, if there are great 'old days' recordings...

7 best-produced recordings of the 21st century to test your system

Thanks. I've been able to find some 1970s Beethoven piano concertos with Vladimir Ashkenazy, Georg Solti and the Chicago Symph which are on Decca. I will give those another serious listen. Also, the others you've listed I can find easily enough. I suspect that I'll still prefer the newer ones...

7 best-produced recordings of the 21st century to test your system

Thank you for the conflicting opinion, something that should be welcomed more in today's fractious world. May I suggest a recent recording that I like for you to listen to and tell me what you think, and you can do the same for me - give an example of an 'old days' recording. There's a good...

Best DACs 2019: USB, portable and desktop DACs

"...t'll take a bit of running in time before the Qutest really starts to sing" I totally disagree with this. What is really happening is that the listener's brain is learning how to hear the sound generated by the device. The electronic hardware does not change from the day it is manufactured...

Stereo? Who needs it: I think The Beatles sound better in mono

I definitely agree. Some old 'stereo' recordings are just plain awful with instruments 'locked' to one channel or another. You're lucky if the bass and/or drums are exactly in the middle.

7 best-produced recordings of the 21st century to test your system

Very pleased to see an update on this as I commented on a similar forum that there was nothing more recent than 2003 and most of the 10 were significantly older. Recording technology and engineers' skill have all improved a lot in my opinion. No matter how great or well-loved some of the most...

12 of the best-produced recordings to test your speakers

Surely there are recordings made after 2003 (19 years ago!) that are more worthy? For instance, I much prefer LVB symphonies and piano concertos made within the last 10 years - the recording equipment, and all that has been learned by engineers over the years, create a much more realistic and...

    AudioQuest Rocket 11

The article says "tested at £12.50", i.e. about $20 Cdn. So, how come in Canada these are almost $400 on Amazon ????

How to play hi-res music on your iPhone

I just got the answer a few minutes ago - you do it with AirDrop and then you can choose to put your flac (or whatever) files in Onkyo HF. It works. Phew. Onkyo should post this themselves.

How to play hi-res music on your iPhone

This article needs updating. Big Sur does not have iTunes at all. So far, I have spent $16 on Onkyo HF and I can find no way to get anything into the HD folder and no way to transfer flac or anything else that isn't Apple format. I did convert a few flac files to aiff but when I synced they went...
