For music listening, as has been pointed out, I think a good quality stereo amplifier and a pair of good quality speakers, is in my view unbeatable. There is another debate, about floor standing speakers versus stand mount. In addition the debate can go further into floor standing speakers...

Personally I would take two wires from the left speaker outputs on your amplifier and two from the right and connect them correctly to the speaker level inputs on the subwoofer. Of course this means you will have your stereo speakers, and the sub, connected to the speaker connectors on the back...
