When I bought my Marantz PM7200 Integrated Amplifier sometime around the year 2000, the first thing I noticed after plugging it in was transformer hum.
At first, I thought something was wrong, but it wasn't intrusively loud and after mulling it over for a while, I realised what it was, and...
Absolutely, if the source, what's being fed into the amp is crappy, you can spend massive amounts of cash on your amplification or speakers or both, but all that'll happen, is that the crappy source will be revealed for what it is.
Incidentally, the actual first source, which we don't mention...
My thoughts for what they're worth, which is probably very little are as follows. They're based on the experience of going through quite a few different components in the last decade or so.
For the record (not vinyl record), I only listen to CDs and I don't wear headphones, ever.
My...
It's not just ones and zeros at all. There's a hell of a lot involved before the pits and bumps on a CD can be read, and converted into the numerical binary codes.
Not only that, but the DAC inside CD players differ in architecture and quality, therefore all CD players certainly do not all...
Hi. I sympathise, I went through quite a few highly recommended speakers, only to be disappointed by what I was hearing.
I don't know what your budget is, but I think that, judging by your description of speaker positioning constraints, you might be best avoiding rear ported speakers...
That's nice to know. Existance can be very pleasant when one's better half is understanding.
That was a bit cheeky of me. It's nice to know that "your better half" is understanding, it certainly makes life pleasant when that's the case. Which is more than I can say for my last partner who...
Oh, so "her in doors" doesn't know how much you've been splashing out on your hi-fi over the years eh?
Ha, ha, very funny. Good luck when you finally have to break it to her.
I can just picture it.....the final confessions of an audiophile.
Yeah, it's real BS, being kept on hold for what feels like an eternity.
If you have a plug in charger, you can plug your phone in mid-call, and it won't knock you off.
I guess you know that though, yeah?
Without wanting to be argumentative, I believe there's a difference between the 12SE and the 30.
The 12SE uses one Hypex class D unit in the power section, whereas the 30 uses two.
How this translates into sound differences between the amps though, I haven't a clue.
Hello again Ashley
Apologies for the late reply, I've been rather busy.
Here's some pictures of the speakers after my restoration.
As you can see, I did some aesthetic changes because I felt the cloth covered tops looked rather dowdy. I did some internet research and came across these special...
