    Cambridge Azur 651 A/C

651a is great value for money at the moment. I cannot comment on the CDP but given the quality of CA's separate DACs I'm guessing it's highly capable.

If all well designed amplifiers are difficult to distinguish

Will there ever be a boy born who can swim faster than a shark? I use a relatively cheap amp with more expensive speakers and feel like I've got the balance about right. I don't want to upgrade anything, but if forced I would upgrade the speakers before anything else.

    Goodbye Itunes

I'm resurrecting this thread because I've now given up on musicbee which would occasionally still pop and click even with direct sound selected rather than Wasapi. I do like the Musicbee interrface, but I wouldn't recommend it for HRT asynchronous USB DACs. The problem is that musicbee won't...

B&w CM8S2 or MA Silver 6 or 8 for rock without bright sound?

I have the CM8 (first version) and I'd say that they're well tonally balanced. Midrange is well defined and natural, which should be good for rock vocals and guitar riffs. I haven't heard the newer versions. MA silver 6s sound a bit harsh at the top end to me. Haven't heard the 8s.

Would you pay for a demo

Thinking about it, even more enticing would be a home demo service along similar lines. Would anyone here pay to hire equipment short-term with absolutely no obligation (moral or legal) to buy? Obviously, you wouldn't have all the hassle/moral dilemma/capital commitment of a long distance...

Would you pay for a demo

I'd happily pay for a demo if it was on the understanding that I had no immediate intention to buy and that I wouldn't be "sold to". Some kit intrigues me, even though I've no intention of buying it; the LS50 speakers being a good example: I don't want them but I definitely want to know what...

is it all in the mind?

If equipment is designed to emphasise / suppress certain frequencies audibly then those differences should be audible. I'm sure this happens with a lot of really cheap equipment.

Worth upgrading Denon D-M38DAB to Marantz PM6005?

I know what your opinion is. I was suggesting the OP does an audition.

Worth upgrading Denon D-M38DAB to Marantz PM6005?

The right honourable member disagrees. Go have a listen and all will become clear.

Worth upgrading Denon D-M38DAB to Marantz PM6005?

I don't think you'll hear much of a change with those speakers, but if you want to hear for yourself then those components are widely stocked at dealers. I have done a very similar audition myself and went with the Denon over the more expensive and more powerful Marantz. If you must upgrade...

    Things that non-audiophiles say

"My Sonos sounds amazing." "My soundbar sounds amazing." "What's a DAC." "Let's hear how loud it goes then." "What's that and how much was it?" (Non-audiophile other half.)

    Has this been invented yet...

Thanks very helpful. Not an issue that I won't be able to sync with laptop speakers!

    Has this been invented yet...

Thanks LHC. I got totally the wrong impression from that thread on the Sonos site - I thought they were saying that they can't stream anything straight from their PC. I just use standard CD res files, so I'm not fussed about the lack of support for hi res files. Now I just have to go through...

    Has this been invented yet...

Thanks LHC. I don't want to use Sonos amplification and speakers, but are you saying that if I used a Sonos Connect, connected by optical line out to a DAC (and otherwise non-Sonos system), I could stream direct from my PC (I'm assuming I'd need to use the Sonos App or whatever on a phone to...

    Has this been invented yet...

@iMark. Thanks for the response. I don't use iTunes and I'd rather not go back to it, but thanks for the correction regarding file formats. No, my DAC is USB only, although I'd be willing to swap it out for a reasonably priced solution that allows me to play losslessly and wirelessly from my...
