    Cassette Decks

If you can find an Aiwa AD3800 in decent condition I would certainly recommend one. Had one years ago and it was a very good machine, especially with metal (type IV) tapes. Unfortunately it got lost in a house fire. One of the features of the deck is that it will measure the bias of the tape...

    Question CD Storage

The old range that worked with the IKEA Billy was called Benno. I still have a couple of them as spares standing in the garage. In case we want to get the CDs out of the storage boxes. They are very similar to the Gnedby.

    Sleeper Hifi

I would argue that the Apple Airport Express is a similar thing as Chromecast Audio. Very happy that I bought one second hand after they'd gone out of production. Still a great way to add Airplay to existing audio equipment. There's even a firmware update to Airplay 2 available.

    Cd digital storage

Haven't been on the forum for while. Just saw this subject. Maybe this helps for anyone thinking of using a Mac for CD ripping. Over the years I have ripped all our CDs with iTunes and later the Music app on my Mac mini. All the CDs are stored on an external hard drive as Apple Lossless files...

Advice on amp for stereo with streaming and TV-sound

I would have a look at an integrated stereo network receiver. With your budget why not try the Yamaha R-N803? We use the Yamaha R-N602 as the heart of our system. We listen to LPs, watch TV, stream Airplay etc. Incredibly convenient and great value for money.

    Media deliberately ignoring CD medium?

Elvis Costello is one of the artists who says he doesn't like CDs and prefers LPs. I really don't understand what's actually wrong with the CD. It's a nice physical copy of an album, easy and cheap to make and there is no waiting list at the pressing plants. And a well mastered CD sounds very...

    Bluray Audio

You don't need a screen for the initial setup of a CD player.

    Bluray Audio

You will always need a screen for the initial setup of a bluray player.

    Bluray Audio

My original point was and is: SACD is much more convenient as an audio source than Bluray audio. The same issues DVD-Audio had were transported to Bluray audio: you need a screen to navigate the disc.

    Bluray Audio

If the major record companies had continued with SACD most blu-ray players would play SACD. We've got 2 Sony blu-ray players in the house that both play SACD. The UHP-H1 even plays DVD-A!. Of course I can switch off the TV. But then I can't see the menu for navigating the disc. It would make it...

    Bluray Audio

That's indeed the set. The blu-ray starts like it's a movie! It's not a movie, it's a music disc. With this blu-ray it's even worse than with some of the DVD-As we have. In the setup there are 4 choices: Dolby Atmos, DTS 5.1, stereo PCM 48/24 and stereo PCM 192/24. This is not a very...

    Turntable (and Setup) Question

BOSE is the acronym for "Buy Other Sound Equipment". We have a mix of Yamaha, Sonos and Apple equipment. It works very nice with the Apple Airplay protocol. But this is only an option if you have Apple stuff too. I can recommend Yamaha Musiccast and I suppose their Musiccast turntable is...

    Bluray Audio

I recently got George Harrison's All Things Must Pass including the blu-ray edition for my birthday. No complaints about the sound of the stereo PCM 192/24 track from the analogue out of our Sony UHP-H1. But compared to a hybrid SACD the blu-ray is incredibly cumbersome. It takes about a minute...

    Leaving amp in standby

It should be in the manual what the amp draws in standby mode. What amp do you use? I don't see it listed in your signature. No idea how long it takes to warm up. Depends on the amp, I guess.
