    Interconnect

I'm not an expert but understood that screening WAS important on interconnects, just as it is with RF cables. Termination quality also. Yes you can use a coathanger (just as you can with an aerial) but don't expect the best results. That's an entirely different thing from "believing" high end...

    Flac Vs Mp3 Hype ?

AAC is normally considered a superior format to MP3, and should sound better at a given bit rate. The only real advantage of MP3 is that it's more compatible, but pretty much all newer devices seem to handle AAC.

    Question re Hi-Res Audio

Sampling at 192 or 384 khz allows for recording frequencies that are deep in the ultrasound range (and way, way out of anyone's hearing range). So yes, I don't get why that is something anyone would need or want. Would anyone be interested in a TV that output pictures not just in the visible...

    Amazon MP3 downloads

This is an interesting test if you have 2 minutes. Can you tell the difference between the same piece of music recorded in 8 bit vs 16 bit resolution? http://www.audiocheck.net/blindtests_16vs8bit.php 16 bit gives significantly more dynamic range than 8 bit, but personally, I scored 5/10 -...

    DAC confusion

TBH I can't really say about a comparison between the Focusrite and the Dragonfly. They are both well respected in their respective categories. It's a safe bet either is capable of higher quality output than typical computer on board sound. I've read mention in reviews of problems with some...

    DAC confusion

Hi there, will try to answer as best I can. Audio interface vs. DAC - Audio interfaces contain both a DAC and an ADC. In other words they can be used for recording as well as listening. DAC are suitable for listening only. Both effectively replace the sound card in your computer. Audio...

    Best PC speakers for 500€

    They are both quite a bit larger than the Audioengine A5+. The most similar in size to those is the HS5's. Height/Width/Depth in CM: A5+ - 27 x 18 x 23 HS8 - 39 x 25 x 33 HS7 - 33 x 21 x 28

Marantz mcr 611 or not 611

Richer Sounds has some of the previous model (the MCR-610) at £300, which I wouldn't rule out either. WHF didn't seem to think the MCR-611 was a major improvement on that one. The Celestion's are fairly sensitive and should be easy to drive.

    ADC question

No problem, you're welcome. Yes Behringer stuff is very good value, that UMC202HD can be found for about £60. The Steinberg branded units are made by Yamaha and have a solid reputation.

    ADC question

There are loads of audio interfaces that will support those sampling rates. Do you specifically need a phono stage though? I think that is quite a rare feature. It can be added through a seperate pre-amp if necessary. Something like the Steinberg UR12 or Behringer UMC202HD are at the cheaper...

    ground hum

I had a real headache of a ground loop issue with some active monitor speakers recently... Really frustrating! Is the sub connected to the same power point as your other equipment? My understanding is that if it's connected to a different earth, that can potentially cause this sort of thing...

    Is it all Hype ?

Well it said a percentage of them couldn't tell the difference, but others could. Slightly more preferred the cheap kit than the high end one though. As an aside I just replaced some slightly too short Audioquest Crystal+ bi-wire speaker cable (I think it was quite expensive back when current)...

    Is it all Hype ?

Maybe this article will be of interest then? - http://matrixhifi.com/ENG_contenedor_ppec.htm A blind test carried out between high end hi fi gear and a cheap professional amp and DVD player..

    DACMagic and Windows 10

What DACMagic is it? The DacMagic 100 for example can be switched between USB Audio Class 1.0 or Class 2.0. USB Audio Class 1.0 is natively supported by Windows 10 without any drivers required. It is just plug and play. Class 2.0 however, which uses higher speeds and allows sample rates...
