    Speaker voicing analogy?

Thanks especially for this Dave! Good starting point for me.

    Speaker voicing analogy?

Hilarious! *biggrin* And thanks for all the input guys. I was indeed way off with my analogy. Some more googling and learning for me to do then :-)

    Speaker voicing analogy?

Hi all Really silly questions here but it's been on my mind for a while bugging me. If a man and a woman both sing the same musical note at the same SPL, would they both have the same frequency response? And yet still sound different? If so, is this the same reason that if you have two...

High/low impedance speakers vs high/low impedance headphones

Hi mate, yes I agree the way I wrote it wasn't clear. So I'll try to ask the questions a little better. 4-ohm speakers are considered more difficult to drive than 8-ohm speakers. But the opposite is true for headphones. 600-ohm headphones are considered more difficult to drive than 30-ohm...

High/low impedance speakers vs high/low impedance headphones

Hi mate and thanks for the reply. But I'm having trouble understanding :-(

High/low impedance speakers vs high/low impedance headphones

Hi all, Why is it that low nominal impedance floorstanding speakers are considered more difficult to drive than higher nominal impedance speakers - but low nominal impedance headphones are considered easier to drive than higher impedance headphones? Much apprciated :-)

Is sound quality really all that matters?

This has been a very interesting thread and read. For me it's the song first, SQ second and looks last in priority. The majority of the time I can still really enjoy a great song on a bad sound system, even via poor sources, like the built-in computer speakers but I'll just make a note to...

    Amp for B&W 805 Diamonds

Hi mate, see if you can demo a Peachtree Audio 220SE with your speakers. Great Integrated Amp + DAC that might surprise you for the price :-)

    KEF LS50 disappointment :(

Wow, so I started reading from the very first post only a couple nights ago. I've finally gotten to the latest post but I never found out what happened with Mark Jones!? I had the LS50's with a Peachtree 125SE on Q Acoustics Concept 20 Stands with Analysis Plus Oval 9 Black Mesh speaker cables...

    Future amplifier classics

Great thread Vlad - it was fun reading through all the posts. I would nominate the Peachtree 125SE, which I used to have before I upgraded to the 220SE. I still think the 125SE was amazing value for the money. How about a 'future speaker classics' thread Vlad? Or does that already exist and I...

    Back in action. New system

Fantastic Hi-Fi setup mate. It would be easy to enjoy the music with that setup :-)

Converting bi-wire cable into single wire cable

Thanks mate. Yes my understanding of the electrical principles involved isn't at all great, hence I was looking for a little more technical explanation of what's happening. But your explanation proves to me that my assumption about directional flow of the signals was all wrong! This explains why...

Converting bi-wire cable into single wire cable

Hi mate, thanks for that. I mentioned it earlier, but if I strip the black and green plastic off and twist them together, it would definitely be straight forward to me. But the splitting of the postive terminal signal path into two separate cables and the same for the negative terminal signal...

Converting bi-wire cable into single wire cable

Hi Vladimir, This bi-wire cable is the Chord Carnival Silverscreen, which has a 4 x 15 AWG conductor configuration. So I believe now that I've 'doubled up' the bi-wire cables into single wire, they are now in a 2 x 12 AWG conductors config, per cable. What are your thoughts Vladimir, regarding...

Converting bi-wire cable into single wire cable

Thanks for the reply guys. Yep doubling the cross sectional area is a positive. But I was more concerned (or curious) about the splitting of the signals alone each of the postive and negative signal paths. Rather than one continuous electrical loop from amp to speaker and back via the postive...
