Is Dolby Atmos failing or just slow starting?

I am all for 3D Audio and Atmos does bring a lot to the movie experience in my opinion. When I am specifying a cinema I now always look to see how I can accomodate 3D audio within the system as a starting point. One of the great things about Atmos is the lift in performance in mid level systems...

Would you pay for a demo

I think that as an industry we need more people to come in through the doors to see and hear what is on offer, a charge only introduces yet another barrier to that - all IMHO of course. There will never be a charge from me in fact you are more than welcome to come and drink my tea and eat my...

    Dali Rubicon 6

I am a big fan of the Dali sound and the Rubicon was a long overdue addition to the range as a step up over the Ikon series. The Rubicon takes on the sound signature of the top of the range Epicon - the quick bass that has already been mentioned - at a more accessible price piont. We pitch them...

    Replacement Subwoofer - Assistance Requested

An SVS SB1000 would be a very good starting point . To my mind one of the first subs that really performs.

    B&W PV1D or Velodyne SPL-1000 Ultra Subwoofer?

I would opt for the Velodyne over the B&W but depending on your room size and layout the two sub approach David mentions is worth exploring.

    Dolby Atmos Speakers

More channels do make a difference but as with most systems it is the balance of the investment versus the sound achieved that is a key factor. High quality 5.1 will happily out perform incorrectly set up or low quality 9.2. The need for speakers and a larger soundifeld will depend on your room...

    Plinius SA103 vs Devialet 170/240

I would stick with the Plinius too - although I am slightly bias as it forms my set up. The Dev will have no issue driving the PL's - the 170 is now a 200 - I have heard it power far more power hungry speakers with ease. The SA-103 has a very different sound to the P10 - the SB301 is more like...

    New Projector Sony v Panasonic

The HW55 is the newer model - the HW50 was launched along with the Panasonic and that is over a year old with no replacement planned. I would opt for the Sony over the Panasonic , it is brighter and sharper and with a little adjustment produces the best picture at this price point.

SONY VW-500ES Vs JVC X500 Vs JVC X700

I do - I have favoured the Sony over the JVC since the VPL-VW80 although some years the differences have been very close. I can see the attraction to the JVC and I regularly specify the X500. The JVC is considerably cheaper than the Sony VW500 though - the VPL-VW95 is really the competitor and...

SONY VW-500ES Vs JVC X500 Vs JVC X700

Leaving 4k out of it the Sony is in my experience the better projector by a good margin. The JVC does produce a blacker black but the benefit of that is really only seen in ideal conditions. I have the JVC and the Sony both running through a Lumagen video processor and correctly calibrated the...

    Wall Volume Switches

QED have one - a WM14 if I recall. Should be £70 or so.

    Cinema Loft Conversion

Plenty to consider here. Do you have the full height across the room or are your ceilings coombed? Are you going to run a projector and a transparent screen? The MK speakers are very good and if you are building a dedicated room then they are well worth considering. The other speakers mentioned...

    advanced settings on the 55vt65?

If I recall the advanced settings are used in the Pro picture setting. You should find a screen to enable ISF mode and that will give you access to Pro 1 and Pro 2 where you have Dynamic, Normal et al. From within that you should get access to the advanced settings. A professional calibration...
