    Turntable, around £4k

Do you consider it necessary or not, for a £4k-ish turntable to have capability for changing the whole tonearm. I am considering a Well Tempered Lab turntable, which has a tonearm you cannot replace. I love the sound though!

    More than one turntable

I currently have the Well Tempered Lab, Simplex ll turntable, £1,995 on a turntable wall bracket/shelf. I am considering buying the next model up, north of £4,000, which will be larger and require a larger wall shelf. For those of you with more than one turntable, do you occasionally rotate...

2nd smaller hi-fi in the bedroom

In addition to my proper set-up in my living room, I have a smaller Denon CD/DAB hifi on top of my clothes drawers in my bedroom. Do others here have 2nd hi-fis?

    Advice on Roksan Xerxes please

A neighbour streams music and says if he had his way, he'd have a hi-fi set up, but does not fancy the chances of his wife letting him.

    Advice on Roksan Xerxes please

My brorther has just told me he bought it and that I missed my chance on it. £729. I asked if he is aware that some of the original models have had issues with sagging plinths, which they have, and he said he does not know as it was on the internet and he has to drive to collect it. I was on...

    Advice on Roksan Xerxes please

Thank you. I currently have a Dynavector moving coil DV-10X5 on my Well Tempered Simplex 2, but am currently thinking of upgrading to the Amadeus or Vesalex from Well Tempered. I have the funds and time for it. Brother has told me it will need a sevice, a new tonearm upgrade and a professional...

    Advice on Roksan Xerxes please

I am in a bit of a panic. I do suffer anxiety. I own a Well-Tempered Simplex 2 turntable. My brother owns a Mitchell Engineering Gyrodec and knows of an original Roksan Xerces, used turntable for sale, which he says will blow both our decks out of the water. He says he would buy it, but his...

    Very cheap record players.....

We knew it was coming. His cheapie suitcase record player has broken already. He has, bought the cheapest Gemini player from HMV. I have suggested he buys decent separates and will never look back. He always finds an excuse not to.

    Very cheap record players.....

I have shown him the Rega Planar 1 and the £299 Sevenoakes deal with the Denon Deck and he says rediculously pricey, high end kit like that is pointless. I have tried and warned him anyway that he risks damaging his vinyl. Well, I tried.

    Very cheap record players.....

He asked how I know cheap players damage records, so I sent him loads of website links explaining it. He said his player got good reviews. I then explained that a £100,000 deck will be great, but will get poorly rated if much better decks are around for the same price.

    Very cheap record players.....

I give up. I have just seen a few half decent used turntables, at really good prices, locally, from both dealers and private sellers. I showed him the adverts and he said he'd rather spend £15 on one that works than one for £250 that may pack up! He then emailed me to say he had just bought a...

    Very cheap record players.....

Bigfish786..... Funny you should say that. For years, he has used a hand/wind up shredder for his documents. I would never be finished if I used one at home.

    Very cheap record players.....

I have probably spent about £12k on my set-up, but have told him he needn't spend that much at all.

    Very cheap record players.....

He has now asked me if the charity shop I volunteer in has any speakers going spare. As it happens, our shop has no PAT tester, so we accept no electricals. How daft does that sound? Speakers rigged up to one of those cheap plastic turntables. Yes, he has heard my set-up at home and still is...

    Very cheap record players.....

I have a friend who, to be honest, is not known for spending a penny more than he has to. For a while, he said he was looking to find decent-ish gear to play his vinyl on, which he has had since childhood. We are talking first/original pressings from the 60's and 70's. I showed him around a...
