If you were using HDMI already, that is most likely the reason why you could not use the optical connection at the same time. The TV wouldn´t allow it. It may be something that can be changed in the settings, but I´m not sure as I don´t know your TV.

I´m a bit confused. Are you using Bluetooth to connect your tv to your amp(Marantz pm6007)? If you are, don´t. If both your tv and the Marantz have optical (the Marantz has it for sure, not sure about your tv), use that and discard Bluetooth

I ± followed the complaints people had/have with the EQs etc. As I stay away from it, I don´t expect problems. Talking of EQs, maybe I´m missing on something that may be a serious improvement but I can´t be bothered. The Eversolo A6 has it, I played around it using a mobile phone microphone...

The optical option from TV to amp is better, no doubt. I do it too, works fantastic and the sound is as good as it gets.

Pleased with it? I like my EX5 quite a lot. The headphone amp is brilliant! Expect at least the same performance from the DX5II

You may want to consider Rotel RA1572MKII or even the 1592 if you accept buying 2nd hand. In terms of inbuilt DACs in those Rotel, they´re good although I prefer the one in the MKI versions as they play native DSD, which is not the case with the MKIIs In terms of power, both exceed specs.
