    Speakers for cyrus amp

For me the AE's are a no brainer, although I have not heard the Dynaudios. The AE's work brilliantly with my (ageing) Cyrus CD & Pre/Power combo and would expect them to also pair well with your 8vs2. They are very flexible with positioning, due to the front firing slot port, and give a well...

    Speakers for cyrus amp

I would personally avoid the MA's with your Cyrus amp. My experience is that B&W are a better match with Cyrus and I have used this combination in my main set up for over 12 years now and am still more than happy. I got hold of a pair of used Acoustic Energy 301's within your price range a while...

    KEF LS50, any competitors?

I don't think manufacturers can really make the specific recommendations that you are seeking. Pretty much any speaker will work with any amp, it's just a matter of how well they will work. The LS50's may well be great with the Marantz, and I can imagine that for me they would be, probably the...

    KEF LS50, any competitors?

Wasn't really being serious when I said this. My dry sense of humour doesn't really come across on forums! You are quite right though, too much choice is not necessarily a good thing, but it is annoying when you can't find just one dealer with the brands you are interested in, unless you are...

    KEF LS50, any competitors?

My tongue was firmly in my cheek when I said that! Of course people would still make the wrong choice, as I have done myself before. A home demo is a must with speakers though, if possible, no matter how good something may be in the shop, they could be no good at all in your own room.

    Cyrus 6a or 8vs2

Ah yes, the brushed black / smooth black dilemma as well... gotta love Cyrus!

    KEF LS50, any competitors?

Yup. Why isn't there a shop that stock every brand that you can demo everything in one foul swoop, then you'd never make the wrong choice...

    KEF LS50, any competitors?

I think the AE 301's are criminally overlooked too, well worth an audition. Maybe even the cheaper 101's as well, spec looks identical, just no gloss black or white finish.

    KEF LS50, any competitors?

I don't own the LS50's, although I would certainly love to try a pair at some point, I'm sure they are great in the right set up. All I am saying is that, like the Piano Man, I don't see the sense in throwing money at ever more expensive speaks when less expensive ones would possibly do as well...

    KEF LS50, any competitors?

Mr Piano is 100% correct. No sense at all in running expensive speakers off a budget amp, unless you have future amp upgrades planned.

    Cyrus 6a or 8vs2

I think Smartpower & Smartpower+ are probably about the best value secondhand, There are always some coming up for sale around the £200 mark. You will usually have to pay more for a PSX-R. I wouldn't worry about buying models a few years old as Cyrus are pretty rock solid reliability wise.

    Cyrus 6a or 8vs2

This is always the trouble with Cyrus kit and the many permutations of upgrade options. You start out with an integrated and before you know it you've got eight boxes and no money left, which is where I am at right now! My advice would be to go with the 8vs, which trumps the 6a power wise, then...

    pioneer a50 with b&w cdm1 + technics mk2 ....

Well I have no experience of the Luxman amp or the CDM1, but I do use the Pioneer A-50 and B&W Nautilus 805 speakers, albeit in different set ups. I did try them together for a while and thought they worked well together. The A-50 is a very capable amp and produced a very clean, detailed & open...

    Cyrus Amp or Valve Amp

I suspect he means all of them! Certainly, with the right speakers the Cyrus amps would probably better anything for the money. I fear with the RS1's though your ears would bleed, and unless you are prepared to change them also I would stick amps a little more on the warmer side of things. IMO...

    Cartridge upgrade for RP3

Thanks for your reply. I do always take the lid off to play anyway so not a problem. Why is it you think I should get the psu first? I do intend to get one eventually anyway, but personally I would have thought the cart would give me the improvements I'm looking for here and now.
