Question Kef Q900: what amp to pair with?

They are easy to drive, manufactures recommendation is anything above 15W. Realistically, you probably want 30W+ so as not to work the amp too hard. If you are in the UK I would take a serious look at an Audiolab 6000A. the mark II came out earlier in the year. you can get the old version...

Question How do you prefer to Listen to sound ?

I would also say 2.0. My AV setup is 7.1 but 2.0 has always been enough for music.

    Question What Format ?

I picked streaming, not because it is necessarily my favourite, but it is what I do most. I often listen to vinyl, but really only listen to CD's for a couple of things I have on CD that aren't available to stream.

    Question Black, White, or Silver?

I would have agreed with you in the past, but have black for my surround system and really like them.

    Question Black, White, or Silver?

That actually works in a way two matching and one different wouldn't!

    Question Black, White, or Silver?

From the responses to a recent post I got the impression most people on here don't really care about the visual aesthetics of their systems. Some even downright dislike the look of HiFi equipment. I was surprised having read lots of comments in the past about people not buying something...

    HiFi as Home Decor?

As I have mentioned in a couple of threads most people don't have what we would consider hifi. its all soundbars, Bluetooth speakers, and DAB radios.

    HiFi as Home Decor?

I visit a lot of homes with my job. Most people don't have what you would recognise as a HiFi. But them we have the other extreme, systems they don't use. HiFi as home decoration to look nice and/or impress their friends. The most notable example on this was a few years ago when I saw...

    Vintage cd player recommendations

Do you particularly want one that old for the retro look? If you are just looking for a good CD player for the budget, a Marantz CD4000 for £50-£100 or CD6000 for around £100. They have a great DAC chip so no need to use external DAC.

    Ask a Question?

How cheap? There is a Brio R on for £208 or best offer, but collection only if you are anywhere near Portsmouth.

    Japanese Imports

Start by checking the manual. The CD play probably runs on somewhere between 5 and 15v DC, some electrical products have a universal transformer that works in many different countries. If not you have two choices, a new transformer, or an external step down transformer. Things could be...

Which album would you play first on the famous Bowers & Wilkins speakers at Abbey Road Studios?

I know I really should say a Beatles album, but it has to be The Dark Side of the Moon. I know its an obvious answer, but sometimes the obvious answer is the right one!

Question How will AI help improve HiFi design?

During a conversation at work about how we use AI, I speculated how it will improve HiFi design. Remembering an article about computer generated designs for the internal architecture of loudspeakers, my first thought was how it could reduce trial and error in the design stage benefitting...

How long do integrated amps last?

I have a Sony TA-F246A from 1995 in my bedroom. I got it 2nd hand ten years ago. I'm not sure how much use it had in the first 20 years but I have used it three or four times a week for the last ten years.
