    Where to begin?

There is no substitute for going to listen to a system, or even better borrowing equipment to listen at home. For your budget, I would consider the following: Marantz PM6007 £369 (you will need to spend £600+ to get better Marantz CD6007 £349 (CD players are making a comeback, but never went...

Question Set-up advice for first turntable, amp & speakers?

Glad to hear you got what you wanted. Did it come in on budget?

Question How well positioned are your loudspeakers?

Nice looking room. The most important thing is they sound good to you. You can measure all you want, but its the small tweaks that make the difference.

Question How well positioned are your loudspeakers?

Probably as good as its going to get as long as you use them with the TV, and the TV is in that position. The only problem with not using them with the TV, is TV speakers are useless!

Mix Tape - HiFi Systems on film and TV.

Never noticed that, she is getting her own spin-off show, interesting to see if it is used in that too.

    Question Budget setup upgrade suggestions?

Its difficult to make recommendations as different products are available in different territories. The amp certainly looks like the place to start. The Arcam A5 is excellent, you won't go far wrong with it. I only know the other two by reputations, but they both have great reputations...

Mix Tape - HiFi Systems on film and TV.

I have just started watching Mix Tape on iPlayer, so far so so good after the first episode. I always take an interest when I see a HiFi system in a movie or TV show. One of the best examples is High Fidelity (2000), Rob Gordon (John Cusack) is into music not gadgets and toys. His system is...

    Improve an existing system

Not sure they "lack bass", but they are in line with speakers of their age and size. Its a matter of taste, but a sub could fill out the sound.

Would a HiFi setup sound better than a home cinema setup for music?

I came to this thread late, and have only skimmed over the answers. I had the same dilemma as you a few years ago but coming from the opposite direction. I had a HiFi I was happy with, but wanted an AV system. I ultimately decided to keep the two separate and have two systems. I see from...

    Good Set Of Rear Speaker's

What is the issue with what you have? what are you trying to fix/improve?

    Improve an existing system

You have excellent speakers but not known for their lower end. Have you considered a small active sub? \do you have a decent cartridge on your record player, is there room for improvement there. Finally, but probably most important, have you played with speaker positioning. a couple of...

    Name and shame

I haven't watched any lately, but do like the way Tarun from A British Audiophile describes things in comparison to his own reference systems. He says what is good and bad about a product in comparison.

Stereo Set Recommendations for the UK?

You have asked about the UK a couple of times suggesting you are not from or haven't been living here. I wouldn't get too hung up on which brands as most brands are available all over. You mention "I stream from ROM using JRiver and HQ Audio", you are clearly not a total novice, although I...

Stereo Set Recommendations for the UK?

There are countless options. Rather than talking brands it is probably best to start with what you need. The obvious is a pair of speakers and an amp to drive them. What source(s) do you intend to use? CD, record player, streaming? Once you know what you need, you can then decide how much...
