But that was my point really, if anyone recommends an AVI product here they're attacked for it. KEF seems to be recommended with at least as much zealotry from certain quarters but this is deemed fine. Double standard I think.

I'd agree that the Quad ESL's are fantastic speakers if you can accommodate them but they really do need a good metre clearance all round minimum to really work since they radiate from both the front and back. I wouldn't say any cone driven speaker can really compare, it's like apples and...

I wasn't saying the speaker would sound bad, merely that while the driver arrangement will have some positives it will also have some negatives! If you cup your hands around your mouth and move them in and out as you talk it will affect the sound, the same principal would be relevant for putting...

But aren't there negatives to coaxial driver arrangements too? Making a fancy baffle to keep the drive units under control and then placing the tweeter in the middle of what is essentially a moving baffle in the bass driver must affect its output? I think like all loudspeaker arrangements there...

I think that rudeness comes in when you're not dealing with absolutes. Because so much in Hi-Fi is subjective it's all down to opinion, so naturally people want theirs to be right and become more vocal about it. Same as religion really. There seem to be a few topics which always get people riled...

As much as expecting to hear a difference results in hearing a difference I guess, but then we're back to blind testing being the obvious solution which many consider flawed for some reason. Personally I feel that's the best route to go if wanting to back up what you think you hear.

The onus on proof should be on the manufacturer to be able to back up their claims, not on the public to "buy it and try it". In this case Steve_1979 has found no difference and he's the one being questioned about the validity of his findings, even if in the usual wind-up spirit as seems common...
