An evening with Dali at the What Hi-Fi? listening rooms!

Does this mean that Dali will only be getting five star reviews from now on? :D I mean, it would be harsh to give your friends a bad review wouldn't it?* ;) Were other manufacturers asked to do evenings or did Dali approach What Hi-Fi? I think if these evenings become the norm with various...

    Best Speakers

Didn't you question the validity of someone's comments in another thread because they didn't like KEF LS50's and preferred other models? I think you just stopped short of calling them a troll. I do agree that taste and voicing of product is often overlooked in these debates. Reading back...

    Best Speakers

Yet JJBomber's rather aggressive vitriol and name-calling to other forum members is ok?

Is there ANY chance for us mortals to acguire this package as only 30 pieces will be produced?

Good to know that the designer said "What began as a personal project turned into a decision to create the best hi-fi system possible "if the commercial constraints were removed"", so it would seem if money were no object that Cyrus would make, well, pretty much exactly the same thing they...

    Speaker Advice Please...

But that was my point really, if anyone recommends an AVI product here they're attacked for it. KEF seems to be recommended with at least as much zealotry from certain quarters but this is deemed fine. Double standard I think.

So what can be done to avoid the KEF fanclub ^ who also seem to pop up in every thread?

    Monitor Audio RX8 - B&W CM9 - KEF R700 - FOCAL836v - TANNOY DC6T SE

I'm not sure if it's allowed to be mentioned here but the latest copy of Hi-Fi News has a group test of £1000 floorstanders. The Monitor Audio's and Tannoy's both featured amongst others if my memory serves me correctly. I had a skim through in WHSmith's so can't remember 100% might be worth a...

    Quad ESL 57 worth it?

I'd agree that the Quad ESL's are fantastic speakers if you can accommodate them but they really do need a good metre clearance all round minimum to really work since they radiate from both the front and back. I wouldn't say any cone driven speaker can really compare, it's like apples and...

    KEF R100 speaker review

    My bad!

    KEF R100 speaker review

I wasn't saying the speaker would sound bad, merely that while the driver arrangement will have some positives it will also have some negatives! If you cup your hands around your mouth and move them in and out as you talk it will affect the sound, the same principal would be relevant for putting...

    KEF R100 speaker review

But aren't there negatives to coaxial driver arrangements too? Making a fancy baffle to keep the drive units under control and then placing the tweeter in the middle of what is essentially a moving baffle in the bass driver must affect its output? I think like all loudspeaker arrangements there...

Extremely poor customer service from Arcam

I think Arcam have made products in the Far East for quite a long time now.

This is the Black Ravioli investigation thread, it may be fun...

I think that rudeness comes in when you're not dealing with absolutes. Because so much in Hi-Fi is subjective it's all down to opinion, so naturally people want theirs to be right and become more vocal about it. Same as religion really. There seem to be a few topics which always get people riled...

As much as expecting to hear a difference results in hearing a difference I guess, but then we're back to blind testing being the obvious solution which many consider flawed for some reason. Personally I feel that's the best route to go if wanting to back up what you think you hear.

The onus on proof should be on the manufacturer to be able to back up their claims, not on the public to "buy it and try it". In this case Steve_1979 has found no difference and he's the one being questioned about the validity of his findings, even if in the usual wind-up spirit as seems common...
