    Rival turntables

I live in some sort of alternate world where I just can't see why it is that people rave about Rega's turntables, but then I've had poor experiences with them. I do seem to be in a small minority.. however what does puzzle me is that almost nobody sells Thorens decks. Probably the best known...

    Buying a second hand turntable

I think I've probably been very lucky with my old Thorens TD150 - spent 15 years in a cupboard, resurrected, needed some TLC and a new belt. The expensive thing was the stylus at £215 (A Goldring 1042). My original logic was - buy new. With many things you get more for your money than was once...

How old were you when you bought your first record player/turntable.

I think I was probably about 18 and it was an Ariston Q-Deck.

    Buzzing Rega turntables

It's good to see that Rega reply to users' comments and that there are still quality manufacturers making turntables. Paul's offer to arrange a courier is a nice touch. The dealer isn't permitted to offer part-exchanges, but agrees that the deck should be returned to Rega for repair and is...

What vinyl are you listening to?

"Aerial" was the Kate Bush album recommended to me by my, er, music mentor when I began looking to expand my tastes, and I loved it. Then I looked on Discogs to order the LP, saw how much it goes for (it is eye-watering), and resigned myself to listening to it on YouTube.

    Buzzing Rega turntables

It is partly the distance and partly that the dealer in question is a pain to get to because it's near Southampton and that always involves sitting on the motorway for an hour crawling along at walking speed just near there. But that's not Rega's fault. It's a shame there aren't more specialist...

    Anybody been Record Shopping today?

So, does the guy that looks like Tony DiBart with the weird hand still work in Kadinsky's? Do spill the beans. ;)

    Buzzing Rega turntables

Some balance: If I were to search the internet for "buzzing [insert any manufacturer here] turntable" I'd get plenty of results. And most of those would be down to user error: an example would be novices who thought it was a good idea to be tidy and tie-clip the phono and power cables together...

Those shelving units look good - thanks for the tip :) Quite agree on the SQ, though where an effort has been made (e.g. a synthesised "soundstage" and good use of effects), and even though the music is entirely electronic, they can sound great. A few examples that spring to mind are Mark...

What vinyl are you listening to?

Genesis - I know "Invisible Touch" is in the box waiting to be played, though I recall that track and that period. Not sure what others are there, but thanks for the tips. I tend to drop one "experimental" LP in to the playlist every now and again and then I find myself reverting back to my, er...

    Anybody been Record Shopping today?

Is it? People are still "debating" that? (grins manically) For about £20 I got a stack of 12" singles all of which except one are pristine including: 49ers - Touch Me (never owned that before) and The KLF - Justified and Ancient (good fun), plus that Don Henley one and others. They weren't that...

How to increase the sound volume of the MC cartridge?

I have that phono amp and it's giving some really good results with what I have. However, I have no frame of reference to call upon unlike others on here, so whether it's the best thing for the money or not - I defer to Steve and other members.

    Anybody been Record Shopping today?

This is hi-fi. Life is never complete. There's always more money that can be spent ;) I was warned about this when I decided to get back into this particular hobby.
