Question Problem with subwoofer or amp

Hi I have a problem with my subwoofer. It happened suddenly. I have a Bowers & Wilkins ASW608 woofer and Yamaha A-S501. I've been using this system for over 4 years now. There are 2 pairs of speakers attached to the system too - one pair of MA BX2 and a pair of Opera 1.5 The problem with the...

Which sound card under £100 ? External or PCI ?

Hi, I mostly listen to the music from my PC (Youtube, Winamp, Foobar) and it looks like my 8 year old sound card has died? Still not diagnosed. I am a budget audiophile. I have a pair of MA BX-2 and Opera 1.5 speakers, hooked up to a Yamaha A-S501. Do external cards make much difference? I...

    Disappointed with YAMAHA A-S501

Still not as good as the Rotel RA-10 but it is hard to compare, because during the demo I used a different CD player which is the updated improved version of CD6002. So it could be also the CD Player contributing to a better sound,

    Disappointed with YAMAHA A-S501

I have disconnected the amp and hooked the Marantz back up just to compare the sound. Kind of late now so I will test it in the morning. I will mainly focus on high frequencies - vocals etc. Most likely I will keep the amp for now instead of returning, then if I finally decide it is not for me I...

    Disappointed with YAMAHA A-S501

Thanks, I didn't think of this. I will try it. But I don't think it will greatly improve this amp's treble. No I don't biwire my speakers because I am using 4 speakers.

Yeah I'm confused now, I was going to return in tomorrow but now I think I got used to it? I will switch back to Marantz later today and listen to the same music ahain to make up my mind. Yes CD source sounds better but still there is something about the treble that I just don't like.

I think the Yamaha seems to be fussy about input source too. When I used Marantz amp, music from my PC over analogue cable sounded much better than now with the Yamaha. This is just another weird thing about this amp.

    Disappointed with YAMAHA A-S501

Have you tried a NAD C326BEE? It is a very good sounding amplifier and it includes 2 subwoofer outputs, remote control, tone controls, pre outs, 7 line in's, 50w of power. I think it may suit your needs incredibly well. It has 2 sub outputs but only 1 pair of speaker terminals which doesn't...

    Disappointed with YAMAHA A-S501

Today I have decided to definitely return this amp. I have demoed Rotel RA-10 and it sounds great! Within five minutes I figured out that it sounds optimal for my ears and taste at bass and treble knobs turned to 12:30 o'clock position. The treble is what I like the most about this amp. Just the...

    Disappointed with YAMAHA A-S501

Thank you guys for all your advice. Some of you haven't read my original posts and misunderstood the situation, but i't ok. I am going to use the Yamaha until Thursday. Then I will hook up the Marantz back again and listen to the same tracks I have listened over the past week on the Yamaha...

Can I have a referral please :) If it was the cable, how come that other speakers connected with the same cables do not hum?

Yeah you're right. But if it was a grounding issue, how come there is no hum now? Did it become grounded when connected to the sub out? I don't get it.

    Disappointed with YAMAHA A-S501

I am using the sub out on Yamaha to drive the amp. I was saying that I want to try using rec out on the Marantz to see if it works and if yes - then keep using this amp. If I decide to keep the Yahama it will be so so painful to sell the Marantz... I will need a few drinks...
