Why don’t more young people have a hi-fi system?

The bottom line is that commonplace audio equipment (air pods at <$500) now produces sound that is >95% as good as the best you can buy at any price. Most people don't see the value in closing that tiny gap at a cost of tens of thousands of dollars (price of moving up to owned rather than...

Vinyl pressing plants talk surging demand, the value in keeping it local… and does colour really sound worse?

Does anyone seriously think color sounds worse? It's well known in the US it sounds _better_. Maybe your chemistries aren't right in European manufacturing. Black always sounds ... flat ... compared to the dynamic sound of color.

Is there any point in buying an 8K TV when there’s no 8K content?

I would not bother paying for 8k until next-gen HDMI is on board for reasonable refresh rates.

    Samsung QN900D

8k is going to remain a dead end until next gen hdmi (2.2 or 3.0) brings 8k/120 support.

Super-bright TVs make no sense, according to these Hollywood heavyweights

“For us, HDR isn't about bright, it's about dark” And this is why I need a 4k nit tv. Because it's the only way to be able to see your damn content.

Microsoft teases a new, ultra-powerful Xbox, but will it seal 4K Blu-ray's fate?

I'm shocked they would even consider releasing a device today without wifi7. Much less at some nebulous time in the future.

Rumours suggest that 2025 OLED TVs could hit 4000 nits

I think the need for 4k+ nits is pretty obvious. If you have seen any of the recent content on disney or netflix they seem to be targeting sets with a brightness in the 10k+ range and are frankly unwatchable on existing technology. All you see is black.

OLED vs QLED: Which is the best TV technology?

There is a holy grail for TV though. You can deliver a picture bright enough and detailed enough to exceed the capabilities of the human eye to detect any further improvement. We're not there yet, but we're getting close on detail (64k tvs will get there for 100 inch picture at standard...

Chord Company ClearwayX ARAY Analogue RCA

Oh, without a doubt. My claim is only the inverse: without a measurable difference, your ears are only hearing the placebo effect.

Chord Company ClearwayX ARAY Analogue RCA

I wish I could upvote you more than once. Any difference detectable by the human ear can be detected and analyzed with much greater accuracy by a relatively trivial machine, and the analysis of that machine can generate an accuracy score. The fact that audiophile devices are not analyzed this...

iPhone 15: release news, price, features and spec leaks

Whether they include a DAC etc., more people use IPhone as their primary music source than literally any other device on earth. They set the standard by which superior audio solutions may be judged.

4K Blu-ray is on the verge of dying out and no one seems to care

<Describes owning many thousands of dollars worth of physical media> But there's no way i'm paying 3100 for a player! I never understand this attitude. If you care so much about the quality advantage of physical media, enough to spend this vast amount of money on the media, why don't you spend...

How McIntosh and Sonus Faber deliver high-end hi-fi on a €10 million super yacht

This seems like the most 'why bother' ever ... you're literally doing this on a boat. On the water. Which is ruining your sound experience with white noise relentlessly. The noise floor is at least two orders of magnitude above what you could possibly achieve with high end gear.

Melco's flagship N1 digital music library promises "previously unreached performance level"

It works the other way. A website wants to be a credible authority on the quality of products. They achieve this by not saying things that suggest they might be falling prey to payola.

Melco's flagship N1 digital music library promises "previously unreached performance level"

From their review: "There will always be those that think digital things like servers make no difference to sound quality, but that isn’t the case in our experience. While noting that the Melco comes in at more than four times the cost of our Uniti Core, there is no denying that we hear way more...
