    $2500 or less build?

I’m in favour of the ‘as little boxes as possible’ solution. Which other brands could you audition around? The Phantoms and the LS50s are very different beasts, and only you can decide which you like best. That will (amongst others) depend on the type(s) of music you like, and on your listening...

    Hypex NCore

Coll built his own NCore amp too. I don't remember which speakers he uses though. And he hasn't been seen on the forum for over seven months... Same story for Esra, but he's lost to follow up over a year ago...

    Hypex NCore

Hi Andy, I used NC-400 modules and the SMPS-600 power supplies in my DIY set-up: a DSP cross-over and then one SMPS600 powering two NC-400s per speaker. I'm very happy with the result indeed: ample power; crystal clear, full sound; not a hint of harshness. That's with Maggies, with a resistive...

Given a Gift Voucher for 20K, what system would you buy?

The Brooklyn? Or the Manhattan? Or the Brooklyn DAC +? Or the Manhattan DAC II? Or all of them? *biggrin*

    Some help shortlisting amplifiers..

If you’re into the B&W sound, some ex-dem or recent second hand PM1s are worth a try. The A39 would control them tightly (and they need that).

    Looking for a Combined DAC/Amp - Suggestions??

No, I read it’s not anymore. Just looked it up, and the good news is they have a new home already: Sound United took over the brand. Same stable as Marantz and Denon amongst others. Should keep them going... EDIT: clicky

    Looking for a Combined DAC/Amp - Suggestions??

Classé still exists? Or is it resuscitated?

    Looking for a Combined DAC/Amp - Suggestions??

There’s an ex-dem Devialet D200 on that list too; worth considering at -50%! Especially if space is at a premium...

Build your own system of horror

I remember a new forum user asking for the members’ opinion about a combo he was considering. He had thought of some SET amp with single-digit power that he wanted to drive a pair of Martin Logan ESLs with. I imagine that could be a system of horror (though a rather quiet one).

    Danish Hifi

I agree. Some more speaker brands to try out (if you haven't already): System Audio (with their Pandion 2) and Audiovector. I for one was very impressed when I auditioned the Audiovector SR1 Avantgarde, very cohesive, fast and airy (with the front-and-back-firing ribbon tweeter!). Must be some...

    Speaker upgrade advice

Hi Ashley, As for the LS50s, the more power you feed them, the better. I use mine with a Devialet D120, and I’m sure they would sound even better with a beefier amp. Would they match with the Roksan? The answer is: try it. I think you’ll be fine (but might be tempted to upgrade the amp —...

    Open baffle speakers

I have (modified) Magnepan MMGs in my main set-up. The speakers take care of > 100 Hz signal (below goes to the sub). They sound very open (I guess cos there's no box involved) and do transients really well. Large scale dynamics are limited (compared to conventional cone and dome box speakers)...

Spotify and Chromecast more miss than hit

I'm regularly having connection problems with Spotify, Roon and BluOS (though my Bluesound players are all hardwired). I have so far always solved the problem with a router reset. Worth a try... In case it would be the Wifi, that causes your issues, could you plug the CCA in a UTP-port, using...

Screende shielded cable (do they work?)

Indeed, gasolin. If say the left wire is 1m longer than the right, then the sound from your left speaker will come about 0.000000003 seconds after the right one’s (speed of light and all that). That’s the same delay as keeping your head 1 micrometre closer to the right speaker... *smile*
