What to understand before floorstanding speakers purchase?

You are relying far too much on data sheets, instead you need to hear some different speakers. Some speakers with a great spec on paper may sound poor to your ears, whereas some with a different spec may sound great to your ears. You can't tell how a speaker will sound to you just by reading a...

Anyone have experience driving Rega R7's or similar. (6 Ohm,125W, 89dB)

I haven't heard the MK4 Elex, but I did own an Elex-R for a couple of months ( impressive amp, brilliant sound), until I thought (wrongly) that it had developed a phono stage fault, which turned out to be just fluff on my RP6 /Exact stylus. The dealer lent me an Elicit-R to keep me going in the...

Anyone have experience driving Rega R7's or similar. (6 Ohm,125W, 89dB)

Thanks for updating us and well done for finding an amplifier that works well for you. I assume the Elex you refer to is the new model and not the previous model Elex-R ?

I would be seeking out a S/H Rega Elicit-R, or Elex-R . Both should give you great results with your R7's. Or if you have the funds consider buying the latest versions. Rega synergy exists !

Idle wonderings: Naim Uniti Star or standalone amp and half-size CD Player?

I auditioned the Naim Uniti Star a while ago. It looks impressive, beautifully built and sounds excellent. If I had to start building a system again I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.

Vinatage gear help for a newbie - Quiet sound output from new setup

As Camcroft says above, it looks like your amp does not have a phono input, so a record deck won't work unless you connect a phono preamp to it. However, you say that you have tried other cd players, which should be good, so I guess the fault is with the amp...

Vinatage gear help for a newbie - Quiet sound output from new setup

As far as I can see, the top 4 speaker terminals will constitute output "A", and the bottom 4 terminals will be "B". So try connecting all of your 4 speaker wires to the top row, observing the correct + and - connections. If your source is functioning correctly and assuming your speakers are...

    What’s the next step?

Just be happy with what you have at the moment, until you get a bigger place / room. I'm sure your current setup sounds just fine .

    KEF Q series

The reduced price is for each speaker, so one pair will be $1996 / £1118. These retail at £1399 in the UK, so a £281 reduction is not outrageous. An end of line reduction would be more like a 50% reduction to shift the stock, so I wouldn't be too concerned about that. I'm sure the Q7 meta will...

    Quality amp for Wharfedale 220s?

Surely there is a hifi shop in Taiwan that you could visit & audition equipment, that would allow you to avoid the shipping & import taxes from the US ?

Question How to plug an electro acoustic guitar into a hifi system

For the cost of the adapter, its probably worth a try. I remember in my school days, someone lent me an electric guitar, it worked when plugged into my dad's Boots Stereo Record Player - 2.5Watt. I must have rigged-up my own adapter to connect to the DIN socket on the Boots. I can't remember the...

    Help with Dual CS 505.1

These 1/2" headshell adapters were popular back in the day for the CS505, the typical cartridge upgrade was to fit a Nagaoka MP11 (from memory). I still have my Dual CS505 mk1, it's a nicely made deck and still sounds good with it's original Dual clip-fit cartridge. Keep checking your...
