Choosing new speakers. Fyne vs PMC vs KEF

All of these speakers will be good, but you need to audition them (preferably in your listening room) before deciding. The new Fyne 501S is probably the equivalent of my original Fyne F501 floorstanders and I can thoroughly recommend them, but I don't know what sonic improvement they offer over...

    What entry level amp?

The Rega Brio Mk6 is a fine amplifier indeed ! and is worthy of being kept to see you through upgrades of your other equipment. I auditioned one at several dealers, with several speakers including Dali, and Proac DT8 , brilliant detail and full sound all round, heavy and very well built quality..

The Roksan Blak total power and the misleading WHF review

Presumably those watts are RMS and not Music Power ! :)

    Fix or upgrade

    Fix or upgrade

If its been 20yrs in the attic, it probably needs a good strip-down service, there's plenty of youtube videos to guide you. I recently serviced my old Dual CS505-1 with good results. When you have it open, inspect and test continuity of the phono to amp leads (replace with new leads if...

Question Fyne Audio F500 SP (special production) or F501 / F501E? Very good bookshelf or standard floorspeakers?

I own the original F501 floorstanders, they are hooked up to my Rega Elicit-R, the sound is wonderful. The newer F501SP are substantialy more expensive. As the sound from the original F501 is so good, I find it hard to imagine that the sound from the F501SP can be that much better considering...

    £1000 speaker choice

I think you need to find a better hifi dealer who will let you demo sub £2000 speakers, and has a decent listening room. I have the original Fyne F501 speakers and they are impressive when fed from my Rega Elicit-R, I can only guess they would also be decent with a Brio. Many other speakers will...

    Budget-but-Quality Vinyl Listening Setup

I like the look of the Kytes, the Rega P1 deck and the IO are also pretty good and designed to gel well together as a whole one system. The Rega System One gets good reviews where-ever I look. Here's one such review https://www.whathifi.com/reviews/rega-system-one I guess the Kytes will be...

Question Kef Q900: what amp to pair with?

I had KEF Q5's , the sound was transformed when I fed them with a Rega Elicit-R amplifier (105W/Ch into 8ohms). Much better control of the bass etc with high levels of detail. Having a large available amount of power in an amplifier allows the amp to supply immediate large amount of current to...

HiFi product validation or a wide berth of opinions relating to a product.

I own the CDS50 model that replaced the CDS27. I can ony say that I am very impressed with it, great build quality / plays CD's with an excellent sound quality, and the streamer section sounds so good playing music via Qobuz that I have absolutely no intention of changing it. I understand that...

Rega planar 6 Marantz Model 50

Suppose it all depends on how bouncy the floor is. My RP6 is on the top glass shelf of a hifi rack which sits on a carpeted suspended wooden floor and I dont have any issues with needle bounce or distortion. No doubt a wall shelf would be ideal, but mine works perfectly well where it is.

What to understand before floorstanding speakers purchase?

You are relying far too much on data sheets, instead you need to hear some different speakers. Some speakers with a great spec on paper may sound poor to your ears, whereas some with a different spec may sound great to your ears. You can't tell how a speaker will sound to you just by reading a...

Anyone have experience driving Rega R7's or similar. (6 Ohm,125W, 89dB)

I haven't heard the MK4 Elex, but I did own an Elex-R for a couple of months ( impressive amp, brilliant sound), until I thought (wrongly) that it had developed a phono stage fault, which turned out to be just fluff on my RP6 /Exact stylus. The dealer lent me an Elicit-R to keep me going in the...
