    New tidal

Hi Vlad, long time... Obviously determines what we here, recording, mastering, ripping all have an effect, usually a pretty big one. Recently I have found that the ripping quality on Spotify can be variable, nominally 320kbits/sec Ogg vorbis it sounds to me as if some tracks/albums are...

    I have no idea

As far as I am aware, most hi-fi streamers do not have native support for Apple music, you need a computer or an iThing. That makes the Airplay option pretty sensible, for you own rips, there is plenty of free software and since you do not have that many, a usb stick may well be enough. Most...

    New tidal

A 10dB pad does not reduce the voltage to 1/10th. That would require a 20dB pad. A 10dB pad will reduce a 2 volt signal to approx 632 mvolts, so perfectly ok in this example.

    New tidal

Just trying to be clear, both for me and anyone else reading this thread. So using the -10dB 'pads' as in the OP's original post is not 'attenuation' if the lowered signal is above the threshold of the amplifier sensitivity. I understand what you are saying though I dissagree with the...

    New tidal

I really do not get this! If the amp output is 'lowered', how can it still produce 'max power' and if it is still producing max power how can that 'translate to lower spl'? It can't, what you are saying makes no sense. Whatever the level of the incoming signal, attenuated or not, as long as it...

    New tidal

I am really talking about gain. Modern amplifiers have more than enough, mostly due to high input sensitivity. I am struggling to think of any digital based system where there is any downside to using attenuators as described by the OP. And the suggestion that an amplifiers output is reduced...

    New tidal

Andyjm covered a couple of these points, but pretty much everything else is nonsense. An amplifier does not have to 'work harder' if you use an attenuator on the input, that is just plain wrong and the suggestion that this reduces the output available is nonsense. The errors and misconceptions...

Small streamer to go marantz 6006 amp

I have a Connector which I use predominately for streaming Spotify, functionally it works well. I use the variable analogue outs but think that in your case, best practice would be to use the Optical out into your PM6006. Only downside for me is that it uses Tune-In radio, not great either in...

    Basic 2-Channel System

This is the way that many people buy their equipment despite what you might read on here. It is a perfectly reasonable selection of product and will probably work fine if set up correctly in your room. One or two points... The A9010 is a relatively 'purist' budget integrated, the reciever...

    I Need Help !!

If you are serious about trying to get decent performance from your player, then there are a number of issues that need to be addressed. Firstly, there is the issue of wiring and earthing, each component of the player, turntable, arm, cartridge needs to be earthed once and once only, if it is...

Focal Aria 906 in a large room? Or better 926?

It certainly is, I have installed systems in big spaces on occassion, from Thames side 'lofts' even bigger than the OPs space to the 'hall' of a scottish manse, complete with minstrel gallery! Dealing with such spaces is very different, big 15 inch Tannoys (driven by a Quad 405) sounded...

Focal Aria 906 in a large room? Or better 926?

You have a big space to fill so if I could manage it I would definitely look to get the bigger speakers. On paper the power of the Lyric 09 should be a decent match for the 926 but the room will undoubtably be the deciding factor. For any setup to work well the room will need to be pretty well...

    Your first vinyl record?

Single was 'I Want You', one of Dylans poorer releases in an era of otherwise exceptional recordings. A real silver lining though, the best version of 'Just like Tom Thumps Blues' on the B Side. One of my favourite songs ever and this particular live version is absolutely awesome and very rare...

Challenge, first high performance hifi system

The question/instructions are pointless. May as well ask what cassette deck should I buy, what music centre, what radiogram? For the budget, just get yourself down to Richers or Sevenoaks and buy the usual branded (but all made in China) tosh, the moden equivilent of a 60's radiogram or 70's...

Challenge, first high performance hifi system

I simply would not suggest a system like that to anyone looking for a good first system, to coin a phrase, that is so 'last century'. Modern users want different things, given the budget my answer is easy. A Yamaha WXC50 streamer/dac/pre-amp and a pair of Adam A7x or, preferably A8x active...
