    Head-fi setup

I had an X-Can V2 once, and I miss it. I'll get a new one one day.

    The film thread.

I watched Blue Crush on DVD, which is a great surfing movie, and one of the earliest appearances of Michelle Rodriguez (coming out just after The Fast and the Furious). I understand the actors actually learned to surf for the movie, although the advanced moves were done by stunt doubles. rating...

4K discs and how my TV confused me!

I found that too. I think it's designed for watching in absolute darkness, which I rarely do, and I daresy it works better on very expensive TVs, which mine isn't!

GPMI vs HDMI/DP: Is a New Standard Coming?

There are people who sell hardware loaded with films or illegal streaming links, and they include Kodi because it's free, open source software and they can modify it, but the software itself is just (sophisticated) media playback software. I use it for playing my ripped music and film...

4K discs and how my TV confused me!

I feel a bit silly, and a bit annoyed at LG, because I have finally worked out why 4K discs were looking poor on my TV. I have an LG TV and a Panasonic 4K blu ray player. Like most TVs, the LG has various picture presets that can be customised. These can also be set differently for different...

Question Do you have a BLU-RAY player with a SLEEP TIMER?

Hi all, If you own a blu-ray player (not a DVD player) with a SLEEP TIMER, can you respond to this thread with the make and model please? I'm looking to try and buy a second hand player with this function. Please do not reply with any other suggestions or questions, thanks!

Question Choosing audio tracks for a 2.1 audio system

Thanks for your reply. That's what I was thinking. It's good to know that others agree!

    Sub Wiring Help Needed Please

You can connect two speaker wires to the same terminal. I have a Marantz stereo amp and an REL subwoofer. I have my regular speakers connected to the terminals, then the sub is also connected to the terminals, on the L positive, R positive and L negative terminals, as shown in your diagram.

Question Choosing audio tracks for a 2.1 audio system

Hi folks, I have a stereo audio system for my TV setup. It's a Marantz amp and Mission speakers, and the blu-ray is connected to the amp via a digital connection. I was wondering: when I play a movie, and there is a choice of 5.1 and stereo soundtracks, should I choose the stereo option? I...

What Are Your Favorite Travel Headphones?

I currently have a pair of Lindy NC-60, which are noise-cancelling over-ear phones, with a detachable cable. The sound is fine for the price, and the noise cancellation is very good, but I am getting frustrated with having to replace cables. I've asked around for recommendations of robust...

    Room 101

Mine would be people who use one word so much it starts to grate. I listen to a podcaster who talks about football, and he uses the word "just" all the time, even where the context implies the opposite of "just." It's as if he is hedging everything he says, which would be understandable if he...

Anyone with experience of Virgin Media?

I've read a lot of mixed reviews, but my experience has been largely good. The best thing is that you usually get through to a human on the phone pretty quickly and the call quality is very clear and they are often based in the UK or Ireland so you can actually have a proper conversation with...

Is the resurgence of vinyl LP's a fad?

Otherwise known as an "uncountable noun." :) Technically, you can say "vinyls," not in reference to a quantity of records, but a quantity of different types of vinyl (if you were working in a pressing plant). You might say, "the recycled and non-virgin vinyls don't work as well as the virgin...

Is the resurgence of vinyl LP's a fad?

The best thing about the vinyl resurgence (circa 2019 onwards) is that I no longer have to deal with people responding "do they still make those?" when I talk about records or turntables.

Am I the youngest vinyl lover? How old are you?!

I'm 41 and started collecting records when I was a bedroom DJ in the 90s, collecting Drum n Bass, UK Garage and Hip-Hop singles. At the same time, I collected rock, pop and other music on CD, and particularly Britpop! In the 90s, there weren't many rock and pop albums being released on vinyl, so...
