    MC DAC

It just occured to me that the chromecast is optical out only. So even if you piped optical out of your turntable the chromecast wouldn't accept it

    MC DAC

Where is your turntable and where is your lounge? Would you not have to run a long optical cable, why not run a long rca into your tele/AV setup rather than converting to optical? There are obviously limits to the runs on optical and RCA before you get degredation. Why have the chromecast in...

    MC DAC

I would be interested in what you are trying to achieve here. Is it that you want to be able to stream the output of your turntable around the house. If that is the case I do something similar at home: You can take the output of your MC pre-amp and feed it into an ADC (there are lots...

    Record cleaning

Another fan of the knosti here. I brew up my own liguid with distilled water, IPA and a small amount of ISOphotol wetting agent. I tend not to bother with a disteilled water rinse as I don't really think it gets in the grooves. For cleanish (I.e. new or looking clean) reecords i will put...

BBC makes changes to its internet radio streams

This also seems to affect sqeezebox users using Triode's BBC iPlayer plugin for both live and play again streams. Looking above, it seems like Naim, Squeezebox, Pioneer, Denon at a minimum. Who have the BBC spoken too?

    Replacement for Squeezebox

I wouldn't replace them. Squeezebox and squeezebox server is still alive and well in the open source community. If you don't mind a tiny amount of DIY you can build a squeezebox clone using a raspberry Pi. http://www.raspberrypi.org/ A piece of software called picore player...

Combined DAC/headphone amp up to £300?

You could try one of the offerings from ifi. I have the ifi iDSD micro and have to say that I am well impressed. They do a non-DSD DAC (Micro) and some Nano products that should come within your range. On the plus side they make matching components (Tube headphone amps, power conditioners...

    Over-ear passive headphones? £200 ish?

I was looking to solve the exact same problem. Was struggling to audition much. I tried the B&W P3/5/7 in the apple store but wasn't sold. I also tried the Sennheiser momentum on and over ear. But I eventually plumped for the fidellio M1 (Mk1) as everones favourite online store had them at a...

Samsung ARC smart hub Yamaha receiver

I assume ARC is working for everything else (TV, blueray etc)

Samsung ARC smart hub Yamaha receiver

Hi have an older Yamaha (673) and a couple of generations old Samsung with Smarthub. To use the apps via ARC i have to wait for the TV to recognise the reciever first (either automatically or selected through tools) and then go into the smart hub. Hope this helps.

Struggling to find the right amp for Q ACOUSTICS 2020I

Hi, I read this and it is an intersting way to do multi room. Another option would be to use an AV amp such as a Yam rx v 673 (or similar). There are a couple of advantages: HDMI is standard so no need for a HDMI to audio break out box The 2 zones can be controlled independantly (with...

    Vinyl Engine experience?

There are maybe a couple of other things to check. Are you aligning the stylus over the groove correctly (My Rega swings ever so slightly out, so align sligtly closer to the centre of the record). What happens if you drop the stylus on a section towards the middle of the record (a record you...

Move hifi from tropics to continental Europe

I'm pretty sure that they will be ok, as long as there are no sharp changes. When people ship guitars they put them in cases and have a couple of bags of silica gel. Maybe worth putting in boxes with some large sachets of Silica (or something more effective?)

Move hifi from tropics to continental Europe

The only comment I would make is to try and esure that and humity or temperature changes are slow. Also give the equipment some time to aclimitise at the destination so any condensation can be disipated naturally/

Nuforce DDA-100 how to connect a DAC

Why exactly do you want to connect a DAC, since the DDA is effectively a DAC itself. You would have a signal path that effectively looked like Digital source -> Dac -> ADC -> DDA (DAC) -> Speakers Rather than Digital Source -> DDA (DAC) -> Speakers.
