So, I messed up a little...

Small update: After having contact with the hifi store I decided to have them fix it. A new driver will be placed after which they will do some measurements to ensure noting else in the speaker has been damaged. About what caused it; they couldn't really say (yet). When I get the speaker back I...

    It actually does.

So, I messed up a little...

I checked the back of the driver, but there's an incredible amount of lack of information on it. Just a little sticker with two numbers. Tried Googling either number in combination with "Focal" and nothing comes up. Guess I'll have to wait for the hifi shop to respond to my mail.

Some videos of the damaged driver. I'm not a speaker export, so I don't know if I'm seeing it right, but to me it appears that I'm seeing some torn fibers in the cage. Oh, and that scraping noise... ouch. Another thing I noticed is in the second video. THere's some kind of foam ring on the back...

Ok, I manged to get the cover ring for the damaged driver off. It's glued on (wel, actually was) with a flexible glue, so getting it off wasn't that hard. The driver itself was fixed with 6 torx screws, which came undone very, very easily. Like the weren't really tightened in the first place, or...

Agreed with the digital dial not being representative for it's actual maximum output. The thing is though, that when the speaker started flapping it wasn't actually producing any (audible) bass. Still, I should have seen that as an indication to turn down the volume. Just got a reply from the...

I will keep this thread updated. (y) No audible feedback. Cone was flapping slowsly, so I thought it had to do something with sub-bass on the track in stead of it being harmful. The cartridge is 2 years old, with a stylus of 1 week. Currently I have the turntable, a CD-player and a Bluesound...

So, I messed up a little...

Yeah, it's wrecked beyond a doubt. My previous post (which wasn't online yet when you replied) tells that I tested it. Nasty scraping sounds when softly pushing the mid-bass driver in. Some mechanical distortion when even playing at low volumes. I never use the grilles, prefer to see the cones...

The wall is indeed a solid wall. Was initially thinking on replacing my phono stage with one that has subsonic filtering, but the wall shelf would be an option. Would have to convince my girlfriend though I need to drill some holes in the wall. Still considering my options. Already had done...

I've never noticed the cone flap before, but to be really honest Im not 100% sure whether it only occurs when playing vinyl. I might into getting an isolation platform fot the turntable. That is correct. And in my message to Focal I let them know I don't really expect a warranty because of them...

First of all, thank you for your replies. All the explanations of it probably not being in the track but in the setup actually makes sense, when judging by your information. The Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO is a pretty light-weight turntable without heavy plinth. The turntable is placed on a...

So, I messed up a little...

Lately I've been throwing some little upgrades at my Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO. The original wall-wart has been replaced with an Ifi power supply and last week I replaced the Ortofon 2M Red stylus with a Blue one. Obviously it isn't night and day, there are some noticeable differences. Mostly in...

Question PSB Imagine T vs Focal Chora 816 vs KEF R500

So, a small update. Today I went to audition both the Focals and the KEF's since they were advertised by the same person. He had was using a Marantz SR7012 to demonstrate them, and boy, these speakers are really night and day compared to each other. The KEF's were really laid back and sounded...

    Completely New System - ideas

Oh, my bad. I was too quick in replying and overlooking the given budget. You're right that my suggested amps aren't within the given budget. Perhaps something like the Audiolab 6000 Play? That has a phono input, and although there isn't any HDMI he can use optical or bluetooth for TV connectivity.

    Completely New System - ideas

First things that come to mind are all-in-1 integrated amps like the NAD M10 v2, Cambridge Audio EVO 75/150 and Lyngdorf TDAI-112. They do streaming, have both digital and analog inputs and I believe these all have an HDMI ARC input. Have no personal experience with either of these though. And...
