Yeah, I think the MCR603 didn't have a variable output but the MCR611 does. It certainly simplifies the upgrade path. I don't think that for a grand I would get a seperate CD player, network player and amplifier that would sounds as good as the AE1's.

I really like the look of the AE1 active speakers. I heard them at the Bristol Show last year and was very impressed. My Marantz has a variable audio output - am I correct in thinking that I could connect this to the AE1s via RCA, set the level on the speakers, and use the functions of the unit...

I don't own an iPhone, but thanks for your comments. The unit has a audio out; does this mean it's possible to connect it to an amplifier or active speakers? It would be nice to keep the functionality (even if unused) when considering future upgrades.

The Onkyo amplifier is a sound choice, as are the turntables that you mention. Speaker wise, again they are well regarded (I have Zensor 3's and I am very happy with them). Your best bet is to head to Richer Sounds (if there is one nearby) and take a listen - I believe they stock what you are...

I am not looking to change anything soon, I was merely thinking out loud... I do think that the Zensor 3's would sound even better with more powerful amplification, they are very capable in my opinion. On a side note Chebby, can you identify any difference in sound between the MCR603 and MCR611?

I have had my Marantz MCR611/Dali Zensor 3 set up for just over 5 months now. I am still very much enjoying it - but what I have noticed is that I am not using all of the functionality that it has to offer. I mainly play CD's and use the analogue input for my phone/MP3 player... and that's it...

I use Van Damme cables, bought pre-terminated from Amazon, and I am very happy with the quality of them. I haven't used any other cables to compare but I think that for the price, they are a bargain.

The Iota Alphas were very good, I also liked the Q Acoustic Concept 500. The new 800 range from B&W was pretty darn good too.

+1 for the Neat Iota's. Really good sound for their size and can be positioned pretty much anywhere.
