Wharfedale's latest standmounters see the brand celebrate its illustrious British heritage

Its a crying shame that whoever owns the naming rights to Wharfedale have zero respect for the brand. The Wharfedale Denton was a 2-way design and never a 3-way. I bought the Denton 2XPs in the mid 1970s and whilst I swapped them out with Linton 3XPs a few years later, for their size, budget...

Thinking of dusting off your old CDs? Exposure's latest disc-spinner has you covered

Given that What HiFi were not aware that the Arcam CD5 couldn’t play CDs gapless at launch, can someone just reassure us please that this Exposure CD player does gapless?

Kanto Audio's desktop speakers are here to give your gaming set-up a sonic shot in the arm

I've been thinking of the Kanto Ora as possible desktop replacement, however there appears to be a limitation on USBC input - see here and now confirmed on Kanto website here - which suggests they are limited to 16/48 rather than the 'up to 24-bit/96kHz' that this WHF article suggests. It...

Lenbrook Media Group forms to grow MQA and SCL6 for a bright hi-res audio future

With ever-increasing broadband coverage and average audiophile user broadband speeds creeping ever higher, there is ZERO market potential for newer lossless or lossy algorithms. Silly purchase.

    Harman acquires Roon

I suspect the ‘lifetime subscription’ model will soon be jettisoned for new subscribers. Whether Roon will honour existing lifetime subscribers beyond (say) 5 years is moot.

    Arcam ST5

I do hope the Arcam ST5 plays gapless streams properly. It would be 'unfortunate' if it comes to light that its firmware was as rushed as that of Arcam's CD5 that has been subject to a separate thread of posts on this forum.

Arcam CD5 CD player cannot do gapless playback (EDIT - software update now available - see post 86)

I’m curious as to if and when WHF will respond to criticism of their review process and the (even now) lack of updating their original glowing review if only to warn buyers to make sure the dealer updates the firmware before purchase. Longer term, might I suggest they need to reassure readers...

Arcam CD5 CD player cannot do gapless playback (EDIT - software update now available - see post 86)

This is something of a depressing thread - not so much focused on Arcam albeit they do appear to be serial offenders - but rather on the lack of any obvious response from WHF. A simple message from them that in future they will routinely check for gapless playback on both streamers and CDs on...

    Cyrus Classic Amp

Cyrus’s engineers have done a good job with the digital inputs... Really? Where is the HDMI eARC? Its what average consumers want FFS. Drop down to 4 star in terms of features, in my view.

Arcam CD5 CD player cannot do gapless playback (EDIT - software update now available - see post 86)

You may just have heard of a popular beat combo from Liverpool called the Beatles. Try listening to Sgt Pepper or Abbey Road with gaps between songs that were programmed as a medley. Or any decent rock live concert album. Or plenty of classical Including lots of opera. Or prog stuff like Dark...

Arcam CD5 CD player cannot do gapless playback (EDIT - software update now available - see post 86)

I'm not at all surprised that Arcam's firmware at launch is flawed and/or incomplete as it has been their Achilles heel for the last few generations of hardware. Are they the only brand/manufacturer to which such criticism applies - of course not. However, whilst in this instance I might swallow...

    Arcam sa30

Installing firmware updates via a USB stick is just not good enough for today's consumers who are used to painless firmware and software updates through the internet. Arcam are not the only manufacturer of course who do this, but it betrays a design approach stuck in the mud of well over a...

7 new features coming to the Apple TV 4K that you might not know about

The update I'd really like to see is for Apple to create a dedicated Apple Classical App for Apple TV, i.e. as they have done for the iPhone. The standard Apple Music app interface is absolutely horrible.

How Castle is bringing UK-made hi-fi back into the spotlight

As we approach Easter Egg season, I’m reminded that for me in the 1970s I was brought up with Cadburys Dairy Milk, Flake, Aero, Mars Bars, Marathon, Kit-Kat, Topic, Bounty, Caramac, Frys Turkish Delight, and do on. Such is my nostalgia for our British chocolate heritage. Some of these ‘brands’...

    KEF Mu7

Whether it is KEF, Bowers & Wilkins, Focal, Bang & Olufsen, etc… They all have a history of consistently producing excellent speakers, but largely useless and/or over-priced designer headphones. No doubt they’ll find their market with the cloth-eared style over substance brigade that today’s...
