    logitech squeezebox touch

It's a good bit of kit. In theory you can attach a hard drive but in practice I believe this does not work too well as the hardware is not up to running the internal server software. It is much better to run the server software (Logitech Media Server or LMS) externally and have the Touch...

Ah, I see. Sorry, I was a bit slow there. Will have to have a listen - sounds right up my street.

    Weird music here

Having trouble quoting on the phone but someone mentioned a radio programme up thread. I can only think of the Freak Zone but that's on Sunday. Great programme BTW - has cost me a fortune over the years. Speaking of the FZ, that's where I first heard Magma, who are probably my favourite band...

Why do digital sources sound different to each other?

Quite. Which leads to the question: if it so difficult to get an accurate real time data stream from a CD why bother with it, and why not just rip and stream? After all, it is relatively straightforward to determine that a bit perfect rip has been obtained, so one can say with certainty that the...

Why do digital sources sound different to each other?

I take your point that the drive is operating in a different mode. Nevertheless, my decent (but extremely cheap by hi-fi standards) PC drive is ripping the disc with bit perfect accuracy in typically 1/20 of the time it would take to play it (dbPowerAmp with AccurateRip enabled). If it can do...

    Squeezebox & Spotify

The official Spotify plugin will stop working. This is because it depends - as do a number of other 3rd party devices that currently work with Spotify - on the 'libspotify' API, which Spotify is no longer going to support. All is not lost however. There is a relatively new plugin called Spotty...

New Amplifier Advice (for MA BX2)

On paper the M3si is still looking tempting. Does anyone have it? Does the specified depth measurement of 400mm include the volume knob? Nowhere local has it in stock based on their websites but I guess they'd get one in for me to demo.

New Amplifier Advice (for MA BX2)

It seems that the MS3i is also a little on the large side. There is a WAF factor here in that we have a nice hifi stand that I would have to continue using but the shelves are 400mm deep which is the depth of that amp.

New Amplifier Advice (for MA BX2)

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. The NVA looks like an interesting option but I suppose listening before buying would be a problem. Did you buy them unheard? What sort of characteristics does their sound have? The MS3i also looks like an option. I worry slightly that I would be paying a...

New Amplifier Advice (for MA BX2)

Thanks for the reply. Yes I'm in the UK. I think I'd be willing to stretch to 1K or so if it is something I could see myself keeping for a good few years and supporting a really good speaker upgrade in a year or two. When I wrote that last paragraph I hadn't actually looked up your suggestion...

New Amplifier Advice (for MA BX2)

My old amplifier - an Aura Evolution va100 ii - has stopped working. It was second hand in the first place and I did get it repaired a few years ago so I think it is probably time for a new one. Following some advice on this forum just over a year ago I had got myself some new MA BX2's and I...

    Streaming options

I just posted on another thread in this area (the one with Logitech in the title). As I mention there, I easily put together a little Squeezebox player based on a Rapsberry Pi and Wolfson DAC for about £60. As it runs a flavour of Linux, the chances of viruses are negligible. To boot it up, you...

Apologies to fr0g - I see he already had mentioned the idea of using a phone as a player.
