    The 2k question?

For my money, I would choose a variant of what Matt49 suggested above; using reasonable values from the new & second-hand market: Streamer: CuBox i2 Ultra - £100 (new) + Volumio software (free) - full NAS streaming via optical (or USB, but not with the DAC below) DAC: Beresford Bushmaster -...

Looking for help - Rasberry Pi - HiFiBerry Digi - Volumio

Unfortunately, I don't have access to my Pi at the moment as we're away for the weekend. From memory, I found that just typing the IP address was a much more reliable way to access the RPi...

Looking for help - Rasberry Pi - HiFiBerry Digi - Volumio

If you have your RPi connected to a TV when you start it up, you should see the IP address flash up during the start-up process. Once you have that, you can type that into your browser to connect directly to the RPi, or use ssh to change settings, etc.

    Wall mounted speaker recommendations

Perhaps some useful info for you in this recent thread. Just to ensure balance in any suggestion, please note the conflicting views. As ever, this points to the real benefits of conducting a home trial with the actual kit in the actual location ...

unsure which dac to get for my system

Tom I also spotted this further down my previous Google search: http://forums.naimaudio.com/topic/iphonetouch-remote-app-with-foobar It would appear that it may be possible to control foobar with the Remote app. I've not tried it and I did note that the article is quite old, but you could...

unsure which dac to get for my system

I think you are correct in that FLAC files do not have the sharing and compatibility limitations that Apple file formats do. However, if you're happy with iTunes and are willing to continue using Apple file protocols, then you could always rip your CDs to ALAC, which is (allegedly) just as good...

unsure which dac to get for my system

Tom You mentioned 3m between laptop and amp - correct? I would probably go for a longer USB cable and keep the analogue path shorter (0.75m or so). You may wish to take that with a pinch of salt, though, as I don't really understand the technology (apparently). Depending on what laptop you...

unsure which dac to get for my system

Whereas I would investigate what the OP is asking about before writing down what you already have and think is great. To that end, I would definitely NOT buy an Apple Airport Express, as it has an S/PDIF optical (Toslink) output, which is not compatible with the HRT microStreamer that the OP...

unsure which dac to get for my system

Overdose, thank-you for your forthright response. To tackle your points in turn: If you had indeed read the previous post and the one that it linked to, you would have seen that I was referring to two elements: 1) There are better DACs available than the one contained within an Apple Airport...

Which Dac/file player with AirPlay ?

Whilst I don't disagree at all with what has been said above, I think that you can do better than just the analogue output from an Airport Express (AEx), especially given how much you have (probably) spent on your system already. I would suggest that you could use an AEx to feed a reasonable...

unsure which dac to get for my system

In my experience, the answer is undoubtedly 'yes'. This is a similar question to another post, so here's a cross-link to what I said there: http://www.whathifi.com/forum/hi-fi/which-dacfile-player-with-airplay#comment-2945458

    New Speakers

Hi, Jim Jams Great to hear that you have found some speakers that you like. I hope that the previous posts were useful in generating your short-list, and that you really enjoy your new purchases. Just out of interest, where did you buy them from? Thanks!

    New Speakers

PP, if I've caused any offence with my flippant comments, I assure you that none was intended. I just hope that Jim Jams finds something suitable, and that our comments have been useful in guiding/advising his equipment choices.
