    Baby proof speakers

Thanks for all your helpful suggestions. The easiest thing to do as some have suggested is to put my speakers high up on a shelf, but it's not going to work in my tiny apartment in Hong Kong. The Amphion Argons look very intersting. I'm not familiar with the brand and had to look them up. They...

    Baby proof speakers

Can anyone suggest any small bookshelf speakers with strong plastic or metal covers which preferably cannot be removed? My 2 year old has bashed in my KEF LS50’s drivers with her Fisher Price hammer. They still work and sound ok. I was planning on keeping them till my daughter is more...

Will a DAC help improve my set up?

I had a similar system to what you had a few years ago: PM7004 amp, NA7004 streamer and Dali Lektor 2 speakers. Like you I wasn't satisfied and bought a Chord Hugo. It made no difference to my set up and I hated the Hugo. It was really not user friendly. I ended up changing my speakers and...

    Speakers for UnitiQute2

I'm using a pair of KEF LS50 with my Qute 2 and it sounds great. However, my listening room is small (3 meters x 3 meters) and the speakers need a good 50 cm behind them otherwise I get a lot of bass boom. I will be looking for a pair of new small speakers for my Qute soon and will be most...

    Replacing Streamer

I also have the NA7004. The app really is awful. I purchased the Sonos Connect a year ago and the app is excellent. It is cheap, works everytime and is a pleasure to use and set up. I have found myself listening to a lot more music since I bought it. I have a Chord Hugo which I only...

HiFi advice, ~ £1K, Sonos based in some way.

Hong Kong doesn't have an authorised Sonos distributor but there are a few shops which sell it. Do a search on price.com.hk for prices. Hi-Fi in HK is not cheap and I often find the UK and USA to have better prices and selection. The dealers in the U.K. are so much better than what we get out...

Budget speakers for a China expat

That's a heavy bit of kit to drag half way across the world. China doesn't have a great 2nd market and you might find it difficult to sell for a good price. If it were me I would rather bring boxes of Monster Munch and PG Tips. Especially if you are not sure how long you plan to stay in China for.

Budget speakers for a China expat

Hi Georg Which city do you live in? You can consider Sonos as an alternative. I have seen a Sonos shop in Guangzhou and it looks like a product which is distributed in China. I can't read Chinese but it looks like you can mail order one from their website in China. I guess this way there will...

    Roksan K3 with LS50

I am considering buying the Roksan K3 to use with my LS50 speakers. I auditioned them over the weekend and liked what I heard. However, I noticed that the LS50 manual states its amplifier requirements as 25 to100 watts. The Roksan K3 has a power output of 140 watts x 2 into 8 ohms. I hope this...

    1st Hifi Setup - I Need Advice

You aren't going to get much choice at Tom Lee. The Yau Shing Commercial Centre is worth checking since you have never been there. I bought my Chord Hugo there for a really good price (by HK standards). Take a look at Naim's website (www.naimaudio.com) and pay a visit to the shops listed for...

    1st Hifi Setup - I Need Advice

I find hifi is often cheaper in the U.K. than Hong Kong. If there is a chance that you are going to move to the U.K. I would suggest you wait. If you haven't already visited the Yau Shing Commercial Centre in Mong Kok, I suggest you pay it a visit. Take the lift up and walk down the building...

    High end iPod headphones

Thanks for all your suggestions. I ended up buying a pair of Sennheiser Momentums. I tried the Beyerdynamic T5p, they were really nice but I didn't think they were worth 2 or 3 times as much as the Momentums. I auditioned them in a noisy shop and I guess they would sound much better in a quiet...

HiFi Expensive in the Rip off UK

It seems as if no one really even agrees that hifi is expensive in the "Rip off UK". Many UK brands of hifi such as Naim, Cyrus and Audiolab are 20% higher in Hong Kong than the U.K. It doesn't make sense as Hong Kong has no import tax and no VAT, Plus the dealer service and refund/exchange...

How to convince the wife? Any tips?

I tell my wife it is better that I spend my spare money on hifi rather than spending it on other women.
