    Gilbert & Sullivan

We've seen a few Gilbert and Sullivan's in the Hippodrome in Bristol. They're really funny and quite topical, so if you get the chance, don't miss an opportunity. Music is good too.

i think you're getting hung up on the wrong distortions, but here's Dr CS's post minus illustrations

That sounds entirely fair LindsayT and good on yer. You have to admit though, that you have quite a few years invested in trashing poor old AVI. in the circumstances it's good of you to man up. ;) Just got this from a customer watching a movie in Nova Scotia.

    1. Any competent active speaker will be more clear and better overall than passive speakers generally. 2. THD in our active electronics is overall 0.002%, which is dictated by the output devices in the power Amps. 3. Passive crossovers introduce very large amounts of distortion, all...

What I thought I said clearly was that THD measurements of speakers don't tell you anything useful because the drivers all have similar amounts of harmonic distortion to one and other and this will dominate the measurement. What I don't understand is if everyone who's heard or owns them says...

I did post them on Pink Fish some years ago. They were for an earlier model, but they do show a typical THD for speakers (they don't vary much) and also that it is lower than in passivespassives, particularly so around the crossover. Search and you'll find it. TBH it's a meaningless measurement...

I couldn't find the THD measurements but I did find you a picture of the CNN Tower in Toronto.

This shows how the sensitivity in our ears decreases at higher frequencies.

HG Why don't you go back to PF, where that sort of smug put down is de rigour. No need to bring it here. I doubt anyone wants to hear from a chap devoted to knocking a successful product that isn't up to his exacting standards and that he has no interest in, not even to the extent of checking...

I think it is a huge mistake to get hung up on "deep bass" because you're ears aren't very sensitive at low frequencies and usually when we think it's lacking, it's because the mid and treble are accentuated/distorted for some reason. The vast majority of speakers that sell in the UK are under...

Most materials are for USP and to be as light as possible to keep expensive bit as small as possible and so as cheap as possible. Cones like ours that are complex and heavier require their manufacturers to have their own pulp plant to be able to make them and they need a much larger magnet...

Because SB and all the other high end driver manufacturers are competing with each other, cost is a major constraint. Not only that but about half all OEM customers prefer metal, so standard drivers are designed to take not only paper or metal, but the lightest possible, without changing chassis...

Silly boy! We don't use budget drivers and never have and if you know anything about you'd know that. The bass ones in DM10s are about twice the going rate for top end OEM because they're specials. I've already explained all this an even posted pictures, but you probably have read the thread...

    Advice on an amp please!!!!

Yamaha do a stunner for £229, I think it's 80 WPC and sounds as good as anything I've heard. They've always been at the cutting in audio.

Ours is a lab measurement made as part of the design process and done on an IEC baffle in an anechoic chamber. It shows the effect of the baffle and has maximum resolution to show all faults over which there had been disagreement. It cannot really be compared with a system measurement without...
