Which CD Player for compressed metal recordings

I am partial to heavy metal (Dio / BS etc) and sounds good through my Naim CD5XS without being unpleasent. There are some poor recordings such as Rainbow Rising which still is ok to listen to, however there are limitations. In fact does a good job all round with nice detail to boot if you can...

Cno Evil - Linn Silver interconnect question

Interesting... I have tried the HUGO DAC and Chordette recently :-) I found the Chordette slightly more revealing than DAC v1. In my setup I found the v1 bass heavy at dealers. Chordette timed well and increased insight over bare CD5XS. IE used CD5XS as transport. I borrowed the HUGO at home...

Very Best Speakers (max Height 27cm & Width 21cm) for Sonos Connect Amp?

Yes I know JC isn’t technically minded like Captain Slow / Hampster, but he sure knows how to drive a car and what forms the basis for a good car. You don’t need to know all the fine detail to understand a concept. Surely you must have built up some knowledge over the years on the forum here...

Very Best Speakers (max Height 27cm & Width 21cm) for Sonos Connect Amp?

Come on, 12000 posts and pleading ignorance. JC doesn't know how a car works? SG may have come across too strong (to which he has acknowedged) but seems to understand hifi components and system building a lot better than certain other narrow minded forum members. RANT OVER

    Best gig of 2013

This was one of only 2 gigs for me and rare at that. My first time seeing the WHO and was a great show. The clip from Bass player was just amazing! All I can say is the sound was EPIC & mesmerising.

Streaming player for naim nait 5i

Hi, Head over to the Naim forum where you will get some good advice. However I have played with ND5XS briefly at home and the extra spent on source is definately noticeable with Nait 5i-2. I have a CD5XS now (and Flatcap X2 on home demo) and improvements are noticable. had CD5i, DVD5 and Rega...

Is it worth to invest in main power cabels ?

I got the stratus 52 to go with matrix block. I thought initially the stratus was improvement using with previous gear as it seemed to smooth out sound (noise etc) and easier on ear, but subsequently traded in for musicworks reentry cable as I was loosing detail with rega dac I had at the...

    Hi Fi you REGRETTED buying!!!!!!!!!

Changing Hi Fi setup for Surround Setup to fit in with new home / kids. Not that it was bad stuff (Arcam AVR280 B&W MT-20) But ultimately the musical experience just wasn't there. Now happy again with Hi Fi system, albeit a minor pain to setup speakers for listening to.

PP, Have you demoed a Naim NAIT 5i/2

Steve, Do what you feel is right, however there is nothing wrong with being curious and taking a listen in the demo room to get a flavour. You can decide if it is worth persuing or not then. BTW I preferred my Nait 5i-2 with my setup (pre CD5XS) over the Nait XS. I was more impressed with the...

    Naim Dacs

Hi CL, Have you got any further on this? I have tried a few sources recently and ended up with CD5XS (just got used last weekend). I sold SBT and am selling Naim DVD5 / Rega Dac. I did compare Naim Dac-v1 against my Rega Dac using Naim DVD5 as transport (at home) and the Naim was better no...

    Standmount up to £800

It might be worth looking at again Steve. Different room may suit better and you really liked these. They keep getting better with each step up in source and with the Nait XS I demoed with as well. Paul, What were the other speakers pitched against the Motive 3 out of curiousity. The only...
