The Search for Rich Meaty Sounding Standmount Speakers

If you have the opportunity to demo a pair of Haydn Grand's I believe they could be what you're looking for. They certainly have that meaty midrange you're after, great with vocals, piano and violins, three specifics you mentioned.

    All time greatest amplifiers

Indeed. Have had the 8VS2 and Alpha10 at the same time, used to swap between the two fairly regularly and always craved an amp with a marriage of the two presentations. The speed, resolution and excitement of the Cyrus with the weight and texture of the Alpha.

    All time greatest amplifiers

Having the 8VS / 8VS2 Cyrus in a greasest of all time amplifier list is stretching it a bit :) Have owned the 8VS2 matched with many different speakers and personally love it but 'one of greatest of all time' ? I don't think so.

    What is this ?

Good skins. Total opposite to the Beta-mancaver. Probably tossed the wife out a long time ago when she told him the couch can't go in the sweet spot !

    All time greatest amplifiers

Another vote for Sugden - A21a. Been in production since 1989 and still going with the series 2. Gem of an amp.

    Brand watch : Cyrus

Haven't been able to look at my Cyrus the same way from the day I realised all the internal components are upside down ! In all seriousness though I personally don't mind the shoebox look. If the savings that are made on the mass molding of those little chassis are invested in the internals...

    NAD C516BEE

I've never heard the c521i so I won't comment on it but have you actually heard any of the 'Bee' models ? I suspect not and as a consequence you're tarring all NADs CD players with the same brush. I've heard all the BEE CD series with various downstream components and prominent sibliance is...

Have you actually heard the C516bee ?

    NAD C516BEE

NAD have made some fine CD players. Particularly at budget level. The C515bee / C516bee / C545bee in particular. To say they've never made great sounding players is simply untrue.

    NAD C516BEE

Imo with those speakers and that amplifier you won't go wrong with the Nad C516BEE. I had it matched with the A19 for quite a while, with many mid range speakers, some with unruly treble, and one thing the NAD won't do is exasperate any unwanted brightness, which can be a curse at that end of...
