Do you preferred Monitor / Neutral or Coloured / Warmer Speaker

I took different approacheswhen it comes to the living room and the master bedroom. For the living I wanted some loudspeakers to keep for life. So I started with watching and reading a lot of reviews and searching for a bit of 'goldilocks-zone' loudspeakers that ticked a lot of boxes. For that...

Excellent sound quality in a system is enough for most people with neighbours

I own a Sansui P1000 I grew up with Thorens, but I honestly have to say that with record players I have the idea that soundwise most of them don't make a dent of difference and if there is a nuance difference, my collection is too small and the frequency of playing one is not that high. Apart...

Excellent sound quality in a system is enough for most people with neighbours

It is not really about age either. People that age only lose bits at the ultra high human frequency hearing range. That is a range in which barely anything interesting happens musically. Unless someone is excited by beeps at frequencies that are used to scare cats away. Maybe some piccolo...

Excellent sound quality in a system is enough for most people with neighbours

Nice. I think someone can not really go anywhere wrong with Sansui's 70s au line, apart from perhaps the exceptional issue mentioned, which might be a deal breaker for someone starting in vintage audio. I currently own the Au505 and the au101. It started a few years ago with the entry au101 for...

    Audiophiles are Full of C***

What I like about certain loudspeakers or amps or anything that achieve it, is when there is a bit of "blur" at the top end that reduces the shimmer in a reproduction. It decreases or erases "the idea" that there is a microphone. Trading some "HDR" for a more coherent picture.

Excellent sound quality in a system is enough for most people with neighbours

Indeed.. a personal preferred sound signature matters most overall. For most users it seems a comforting idea to look at the volume knob being at 10% and already being at adequate listening gain. The idea that someone could blow off the roof seems to be a plus. Sometimes or maybe mostly hi-fi...

    Audiophiles are Full of C***

The only audiophile thing for me to do is killing the heaviest of reverb to a subjective 80 or 90% and create a cozy room that would be ok for a good regular conversation (curtains, carpet blabla). Then just anything goes. I prefer these kinds of rooms and (let's exagerrate) someone's soundbar...

Question How are you getting the best sound from your system?

The room is indeed the first place to start with. And if it is not a reverb chamber, it is already better than a lot of average rooms world wide.

Bookshelf Speakers - When to add a Sub?

My experience with subs for stereo for the past 6 years or something at home (in two rooms) is that I could live without them. It really works well when you get a modern amp with a tight grip on bass that leaves a lot of floor. But a lot of modern amps are also designed for the whole ecosystem...

Question What's your next HiFi purchase?

After having kind of a fair impression of the classic Pioneer and Sansui era for years, I came across a Luxman L2 in great overall conditon.

What are your thoughts on Synthesizers and music created by Synthesizers.

An album really worth buying on any medium is the Soundtrack of Midnight express. Why it is a bit of an overlooked album is the fact that Giorgio Moroder's name is just mentioned almost hidden in the top right corner and many people who have seen the movie only remember the track 'Chase' as...

Why don’t reviews mention if Bluetooth / standalone speakers are stereo or mono?

Besides that, it was a "gigantic" CRT. So it has a weight and size advantage for loudspeaker integration Probably not 'this' gigantic, but stil big I assume.

Why don’t reviews mention if Bluetooth / standalone speakers are stereo or mono?

My B&W T7 is stereo and it does pretty well 'for a reasonable compact bluetooth loudspeaker'. Though, if you want to have a better stereo image go for a modern bluetooth boombox like Harman Kardon produces or home hi-fi if it has to be "perfect".

    Question Black, White, or Silver?

Some (maybe most) hi-fi dealers understand that optical pairing to the masses works better for sales compared to "logical" pairing for the smaller groups (luckily a lot of logical pairing is also a good optical one as black and silver was range-wide). And from a 'hifi is furniture' or 'hifi...

    Question Black, White, or Silver?

I (also) see Hi-Fi as furniture-extension and I usually buy something that integrates well or what integrates with the hifi (the other way round). I have chosen the 'other' option as it is usually silver-ish or black with woodgrain edges. Combines well with the mix of industrial and colonial...
