The only audiophile thing for me to do is killing the heaviest of reverb to a subjective 80 or 90% and create a cozy room that would be ok for a good regular conversation (curtains, carpet blabla). Then just anything goes. I prefer these kinds of rooms and (let's exagerrate) someone's soundbar...

The room is indeed the first place to start with. And if it is not a reverb chamber, it is already better than a lot of average rooms world wide.

My experience with subs for stereo for the past 6 years or something at home (in two rooms) is that I could live without them. It really works well when you get a modern amp with a tight grip on bass that leaves a lot of floor. But a lot of modern amps are also designed for the whole ecosystem...

My B&W T7 is stereo and it does pretty well 'for a reasonable compact bluetooth loudspeaker'. Though, if you want to have a better stereo image go for a modern bluetooth boombox like Harman Kardon produces or home hi-fi if it has to be "perfect".
