Interesting enough product to return me from my HiFi grave to comment. KEF is really brave to launch an active version of the LS50. I know there have been a lot of persons calling on them to do so from the LS50 first launched. However, I already imagine loads of audiophiles dismissing it...

I'm happy to see the rules highlighted, but IMO that's only a half measure. The real problem is the lack of moderation on this site. So many threads have pages of members just hurling abuse at each other, without any moderator intervention. What we need is more active mods to delete offensive...

Yep. I owned the XPA-2 amp and the XDA-1 DAC. The sound quality was good, but the reliability was dissapointing. I gave up on the brand because the costs to ship the items back to Emotiva was just not worth it. But if you have a local dealer/distributor then that wouldn't be an issue.

They have a very subtle look with the grills on... I'm sure if you just set them up in the room while she's out, she probably won't even notice them when she gets back.

In addition to looking awesome, the M2 really is something special. It attracts the attention of both the old school dynamic speakers crowd and the measurements focused set. That is no easy trick to pull off. And while I can't say that 20K USD is affordable (well, not with a straight face...

To be fair, you really need to keep in mind how little you pay for these entry level actives. With that in mind, you really can't expect anything special in terms of build quality.

I wouldn't judge the XLS 215 by AT12 standards. The XLS 215 have received some excellent reviews from users and from HiFi Mags that normally woudn't even look at anything with a Cerwin Vega badge on it. http://www.soundstage.com/revequip/cerwinvega_cls215.htm...

While I get your concern, considering the kind of measurments Harman does for speakers and the bragging they are doing with this as their statement pair, I can't imagine a simple sine wave sweep revealing any serious issues. But it would be fun to see what those results look like.

I'd opt for the JBL M2 Active System. ASFAIK it has the best measurements in HiFi and is the definition of state of the art. So I'd love to know whether that would translate into me liking it.

My vote is for the Revels. I doubt you'll find too many people who have compared both brands, as Revel is American while ATC is UK. I've heard and loved Revel speakers, but never ATC. But in theory either brand should be excellent. So you just have to take a risk on one.

I want it now and I haven't even heard it.... *biggrin* In fairness to the phantom, the LS50/120 combo is double the price of the Phantoms (at least in the US). So it would be really bad if the Phantoms were just as good or, worse yet, better.
