I'd buy a few budget interconnects and power cables on eBay and spend a while mixing and matching those, then you'll be able to know for sure whether it's your components letting you down.
If nothing else you'll have fun and spend time tweaking your system while you save up for...
I put my Gothams away a few years ago (probably influenced by the WHF review...) got them out a few weeks ago and was very impressed indeed. I think the WHF review was extremely harsh on them.
And yes, they are still made. They're worth a try IMHO.
reggaedave:No listen, just researched them. Cant find web pages to show you.Inside there is not much between the 8000m's and the 8000p other than price tag. How much can you pick up the 8000m's for each????
About £300 each, same as one 8000P. But it gives you that future-proofing which is...
reggaedave:
Id get the 8000s and a 8000p as i did.
I had a look into the 8000m vs the 8000p last year and conclusion was the 8000m were a rip off, and the difference between 2x 8000m against 1x 8000p was'nt viable.
Did you listen to them? I'm seriously thinking about a pair of 8000M amps for...
The NAD C565 does but it might be out of your price range. Also the Marantz CD6003 and Harmon Kardon HD980. There are plenty of them out there if you look hard enough.
Thankyou Andy Ford for mentioning AISO4ALL, it's transformed the sound, fantastic!
If anyone is interested, you need AISO4ALL and the Winamp plugin. It won't work by its own!
Andy Ford:a.g. - What operating system are you using? You may find that by streaming your music through various media players that you are not getting a bit perfect presentation, my suggestion would be to use something like J River Media Player with AISO4ALL drivers.
Windows 7 RC at the moment...
Thankyou for the info Tractorboy! I suppose you're right and it comes down to a matter of "if it sounds good then go with it". It is useful having more useful volume knob range but I need to do some serious listening in order to make my mind up on what sounds the best.
Quick question...
I play my music from a laptop streaming to a USB DAC. If I turn the volume down in whatever media player software I happen to be using from 100% to, say, 75% and compensate by turning the amp volume up, am I gaining (excuse the pun) the same effect as I would be if I were to...
